Miles has been charged thus far with capital murder for shooting his girlfriend who has now been identified as Jamea Harris.

According to Tuscaloosa Police Captain Jack Kennedy, it appeared as though a “minor altercation” is what ultimately resulted in the situation escalating to murder.

“At this time, it appears that the online motive was a minor altercation that these individuals had with he victims as they were out on the Strip,” said Kennedy. “The Strip” consists of the popular university boulevard which runs through the campus.

“The driver of another vehicle, in which Harris was a passenger,” continued Kennedy, “approached campus police near Bryant-Denny Stadium at about 1:45 a.m. saying that someone had shot into the vehicle, and he fired back.”  One of the suspects was treated for non-life-threatening injuries at a local hospital, but Kennedy would not say who fired the gun or who exactly was injured by the shooting.

Now, days after the death of Jamea Harris, her mother DeCarla Cotton is speaking out and saying that the source of the whole situation was that Miles was angered that Harris was no longer speaking to him.

“Took my baby’s life because she wouldn’t talk to him,” said Cotton. “She was a beautiful young woman who loved her family and most of all her 5-year-old son Kaine. “She was just trying to enjoy her weekend with her cousin that attends the University of Alabama and her boyfriend.”

“She had a heart of gold and was loved by all. It’s no way to express how much she will be missed! I thank everyone that has reached out with their prayers and condolences and I appreciated however you would like to help,” Cotton said.

Kennedi Henderson, Harris’ cousin, also spoke out on the tragedy. “The family and I are just in disbelief that something like this has happened to her. We just ask for prayers at this time.”

In addition to Miles, who has since been arrested and placed in the Tuscaloosa County Jail, another man, Michael Lynn Davis, has also been charged and arrested in connection to the weekend shooting.
