UFC star Jorge Masvidal usually fires shots at his rivals in the Octagon. But recently, he’s been doing the same in interviews. The Peruvian-Cuban fighter was particularly happy to snipe at fellow welterweight Khamzat Chimaev, who recently said that he was seeking a title opportunity.

Chimaev (12-0, 6 KOs, 5 submissions) was ranked third in the welterweight division prior to UFC 286, and he could be angling for a shot at current titleholder Leon Edwards. However, President Dana White has stated that Colby Covington – currently ranked one spot ahead of Chimaev at 170 pounds – would receive the next opportunity.

That then led Chimaev to declare that he’d be willing to fight Alex Periera for the Middleweight Championship, instead.

That didn’t sit too well with Masvidal, who used a recent interview to rip into several of his fellow fighters, including rival Colby Covington. During the appearance, he scoffed at Chimaev’s title requests.

“He missed weight by 8.5 pounds get the f**k out of here,” Masvidal told host Ariel Helwani on The MMA Hour regarding Chimaev. “You’re still talking about how nobody wants to fight you, go make weight before you talk about fighting. That’s the first thing you know. Don’t do steroids, and make the f***ing weight you agreed upon as a man. You’re going to miss by 8 pounds and think it’s all cool and you can call people out? Get the f**k out.”

He added, “I saw a comment of him calling out [Alex] Pereira, like who the f**k are you? This is the world champion and you don’t even have a f**king win over a top-15 guy. Get the f**k out of here at 185. Go f***ing be like the rest of us, go put on your hard hat, go put in your mouthpiece, and get to work… Go fight and then talk.”

Jorge Masvidal has shown no fear when it comes to taking other competitors to task in the past. At times, that bad blood has spilled beyond The Octagon.

In 2022, he is alleged to have attacked and assaulted Colby Covington outside of a Florida restaurant. That case is scheduled to go to trial in May.

What do you make of Masvidal’s comments regarding Chimaev? Could Masvidal be angling to fight Chimaev if he happens to beat Gilbert Burns at UFC 287 on April 8th?
