It appears there will be ‘no harm, no foul’ when it comes to an incident where pop star Britney Spears was alleged to have been struck while trying to approach the San Antonio Spurs’ Victor Wembanyama. The French phenom was apparently out on the town in Las Vegas when he encountered the 41-year-old singer.

Late last week, TMZ Sports reported that Spears filed a police report stating that a member of the San Antonio Spurs’ security team hit her in the face when she approached Wembanyama and tapped him on the shoulder.
Adding to the toxic situation, Spears went on social media to give her side of the story. She said she “recognized an athlete” and “decided to approach him and congratulate him on his success. It was really loud, so I tapped him on the shoulder to get his attention.”
“Traumatic experiences are not new to me and I have had my fair share of them. I was not prepared for what happened to me last night. I recognized an athlete in my hotel lobby as I was heading to dinner,” Spears’s full statement said. “I later went to a restaurant at a different hotel and saw him again. I decided to approach him and congratulate him on his success. It was really loud, so I tapped him on the shoulder to get his attention … His security then backhanded me in the face without looking back, in front of a crowd. Nearly knocking me down and causing my glasses off my face.”
Spears also wrote that she hasn’t received a public apology Victor Wembanyama or a member of his security, but hoped that she would at some point.
However, the Las Vegas Police Department released a statement to CNN saying “no arrest or citations have been issued” and that they were responding to a call “regarding a battery investigation.”
This comes after a video surfaced showing that Spears had more likely hit herself in the face when she recoiled. Again, in the commotion of the situation and the mass of people, confusion can reign rather easily. It’s a situation that the platinum-selling artist should be pretty familiar with – considering she scored her first number-one hit at just 15 years of age. At the same time, her 25-year career in the spotlight has also been marked by odd incidents. So, her encounter with Victor Embanyama appears to be just one more item on that list.
Victor Wembanyama is in Las Vegas to participate in the NBA Summer League. He joins the San Antonio Spurs as not only the top pick in the 2023 Draft but also its most prized prospect since Lebron James.
The 7’3″ French star is a multi-talented athlete with guard skills, so fans have been highly anticipating his debut when The Association tips off in October.
