Prior to last Saturday’s battle between the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, ESPN analyst Lou Holtz – who legendarily coached in South Bend for 11 seasons – not only predicted a win for his former team but also had some negative comments toward their opponent. And just like he did when he stalked the sidelines, the old ball coach is not backing down.

Prior to the Ohio State-Notre Dame game this weekend, Holtz told Pat McAfee and his crew that the Irish wouldn’t just beat the Buckeyes, but they were “a better team”. He then cited that the Golden Domers were playing at home and predicted they would win by 10 points.

Then, Lou Holtz singled out Buckeyes head coach Ryan Day and questioned his team’s toughness.

“You look at Coach Day, and I coached at Ohio State under Woody Hayes,” Holtz said. “We won the national championship when I was there. I’m proud of that. However, (Day) has lost to Alabama, Georgia, Clemson, and Michigan twice. And everybody that beats him does so because they are more physical than Ohio State. And I think Notre Dame will take that same approach.”

Following OSU’s 17-14 win over the Irish, Day had a response to Lou Holtz during his postgame comments.

“I cannot believe what Lou Holtz said about this football team,” Day passionately stated into the NBC Sports microphone.”When someone attacks your family, to come in and win like this, is special. It’s a great win for our program and a great win for Ohio State.”

Since then, the two have continued to trade jabs back and forth, with Lou Holtz stating recently, “He can go after me all he wants.”
