Coach Doug Pederson answers questions earlier this week | Jacksonville Jaguars - YouTube

Former NFL player and current Jacksonville Jaguars coach Doug Pederson has been credited with turning around the team thanks to his no-nonsense, old-school approach. He’s a traditionalist, where there are no excuses, and certainly no favorites. He proved that once again this week when he trimmed down his roster by including his own son, Josh, in the group of players who were sent packing.

The Jaguars waived tight end Josh Pederson, the son of the Jags head coach, as part of cutdowns to get to their initial 53-man roster.  The younger Pederson starred at Louisiana-Monroe, making first-team All-Sun Belt in 2019 and second-team All-Sun Belt in 2020.

Pederson was not originally drafted out of college in 2021, but he would eventually sign with the  49ers as a free agent. The 49ers waived him, but the New Orleans Saints picked him up two days later. Not long after that, he was out of a job again.

That’s when he signed with the Jaguars. And despite gening the son of one of the most successful coaches in the NFL, he is proving that he issn’t quite a chip off the old block. Priot to moving into the coaching ranks, Doug Pederson had a long career as a valuable backup quareterback in the NFL. He is even known for some coming-off-the-bench heroics during his tenure in Green Bay.

So far, it hasn’t worked out that way for Josh, who almost seems destined to start his career as a practice squad player. He’s fee to sign with any teamk he wants in the league now.

But at this point in the offseason? Most team’s already have their week 1 rosters set.

As fas as daddy Doug, he and his Jaguars (9-8 in 2022, 1st in the AFC South) will kick off their 2023 campaign on Sept. 10 in Indianapolis, WITHOUT Josh… of course.
