Minnesota Vikings second-year star Brian Asamoah II is making an inspirational statement with his feet every time he steps on the field

For a player in just his second year in the NFL, Vikings linebacker Brian Asamoah II is showing he’s already very socially conscious. The former Alabama star has emerged as a strong addition on the field for the Minnesota Vikings, while also being a contributor to worthy causes off it. That’s why he’s taking part in the NFL’s ‘My Cleats, My Cause’ campaign in honor of the African nation of Ghana.

Wearing Cleats With A Cause

Many players around The League were involved with the My Cause My Cleats campaign during weeks 13 and 14 as part of a joint venture between the NFL and Visa. Asamoah decided to use his platform to inspire kids to chase their dreams in the classroom and on the field.

Asamoah chose to support for Ghanaian youth after living in the African nation when he was 10. So, his cleats are adorned with colors from the nation’s flag.

“My cleats were inspired by Be Authentic. Be Authentic is my foundation, and my foundation is just basically giving kids an opportunity to go out there and chase their dreams academically and in sports,” Brian Asamoah II told Fox News during a recent interview. “Much like me growing up, I was thrown into sports at a very young age, and my parents told me to try and do it, and I was super excited.”

“But in order for me to go out there and play sports, my mom and my dad always told me that I had to also take care of things in class. So, sometimes I was staying after school to get some extra work in the classroom and to also enhance my abilities, not only in the classroom but on the football field.”

“I loved every bit of it because, obviously, I wasn’t born there like my older siblings, so that gave me an opportunity to see what life was like outside of the United States,” Asamoah said. “I got to see a different type of lens and also had some sort of appreciation for where I was because of how life was so different.”

Brian Asamoah II and the Vikings (7-7) will face off with NFC North division-rival Detroit (10-4) in a game Minnesota must win to keep any playoff hopes alive.
