Houston Texans rookie Quarterback C.J. Stroud has had a lot of positives happen to him throughout this past NFL season. With each impressive performance, he credited God for guiding him. After suffering a bitter defeat to their AFC opponents the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday, some fans might be surprised he was talking faith once again.
C.J. Stroud: God Helps Me Through Thick And Thin
Stroud and his Texans held tough with the powerhouse Ravens for a half before their opponents proved simply too much to overcome. After a 10-10 score at halftime, Baltimore would rattle off 24 unanswered points and win going away, 34-10.
Stroud had a pedestrian performance, throwing for just 175 yards on 19 of 33 passing, along with no touchdowns or interceptions.
It was a far cry from his stats the week before against the Cleveland Browns where he threw for 274 yards and three touchdowns. That said, the Ravens are a much tougher team as a whole than the Browns, so a dropoff is no surprise.
Following the blowout loss to the Ravens, you might give Stroud a pass if he wanted to get down on himself over the performance.
And yet, there was no pouting. No wondering ‘Why did this happen to me?’
Instead, he credited God with carrying him through good times AND bad.
“It’s what I lean on through thick and thin,” Stroud told reporters. “I know I’m upset right now, but I’m really just blessed looking back on this year, this opportunity we had today to play in front of millions of people. I’m just really grateful to God on all the opportunities he’s blessed me with.”
“I’m just gonna lean on Him, and I know that this isn’t the end for me,” he said.
“I’m just really thankful to God on how much he’s brought me from – I can go all the way to when I was a kid to college to Week 1 to now,” Stroud continued. “I’ve grown as a person and as a man of God in a lot of different ways. I’m just really blessed for that.”
Following last week’s victory over the Browns, Stroud offered praise for God and insisted the Almighty is “at the forefront” of his mind as he continues to achieve new heights in the NFL.
His faith holds steady no matter what happens to him on the field. Stroud should be celebrated by the NFL as a role model.
