Mark Andrews, the tight end for the Baltimore Ravens, has been hailed as a hero after saving a woman’s life during a mid-air emergency. While on a flight from Baltimore to Phoenix, a woman suffered a medical emergency and required immediate attention.

The harrowing ordeal was captured in a thread on X by Baltimore native Andrew Springs.

Mark Andrews Is A Hero

Springs revealed that he was on a Southwest flight yesterday when a woman began suffering a “medical emergency” to the point where “the doctor and nurse attending to her couldn’t find a strong pulse” and “her blood pressure was extremely low.”

He described the situation as “scary.”

And that’s when a man in an aisle seat “popped up.”

“Could it be her blood sugar? I have a diabetic testing kit,” Andrews reportedly told those tending to the woman.

The Baltimore Ravens Tight End advised those coming to her aid on how to use the test kit and “eventually her heart-rate stabilized.”

Springs relayed that Mark Andrews and the medical personnel were equal parts heroes in the story and that the NFL player sought no attention for his act of heroism.

“Andrews deplaned quietly. No fanfare,” he told X users. “As he has done his whole career, he stepped up in a huge moment when people needed him most.”

“Watching complete strangers spring into action to help save someone’s life is truly amazing.”

The Ravens tight end has since downplayed his role in the incident, saying that the real heroes were the doctor and nurse who were also on the flight.

“In addition to the fast-acting flight attendants, the real heroes are the nurse and doctor who also happened to be on the plane,” he said in a statement. “Thankfully they were able to provide the woman the quick assistance she needed.”

Regardless, there’s no denying that Andrews played a crucial role in saving the woman’s life.

Andrews was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at the age of 9. He makes sure he’s at the blood sugar levels needed to play each week and consistently checks his blood sugar on the sidelines during games.

The Ravens Tight End was a first-team all-pro in 2021 and has been a pro-bowler three times, in 2019, 2021, and 2022.

This past year was marred by injuries, with Andrews suffering a cracked fibula and an ankle ligament injury in Week 11 that sidelined him for the regular season.

He was reactivated for the AFC Championship game against the Kansas City Chiefs where he contributed 2 catches for 15 yards.
