Country music icon Tim McGraw is joining the growing chorus of celebrities to take a liking to Caitlin Clark. The former Iowa Hawkeyes star and No. 1 pick of the Indiana Fever in the 2024 WNBA Draft has seen her popularity grow leaps and bounds over the past calendar year.

Clark finished her amateur career as the highest-scoring college basketball player — men’s or women’s — in the history of the game. She’s also coming off a record-setting 2023-24 performance in which Clark scored the most points in single-season history. The numbers were staggering.

  • Caitlin Clark stats (2023-24): 31.6 PPG, 7.4 RPG, 8.9 APG

That’s next-level stuff right there.

Back to McGraw for a second. The three-time Grammy winner was just seen sporting a Clark jersey during a recent concert at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indiana Thursday night.

The questionable fit aside, that’s a good way to endear yourself to fans in Indiana. Mind you, McGraw has no reason to placate fans. The dude is a legend in his own right. An. Absolute. Legend.

“She Never Lets It Go to Her Heart.” This one Tim McGraw song could be used to define Clark after a creepy Indiana-based reporter made her feel all sorts of awkward during the guard’s intro presser in Indiana earlier this week.

Aside from that dude and an obviously troubled Antonio Brown, most people have taken to Clark. She lifted up the women’s college basketball game at a level we’ve never seen before. In fact, Iowa’s loss to South Carolina in the women’s national championship game drew better television ratings than the men’s version.

Golfer Paige Spiranac is one of the best-known celebrities to come out in support of Clark as she continues to find herself under a microscope.

“The hate towards Caitlin Clark from current and former players is disappointing but not surprising,” Spiranac, 30, wrote on social media. “Women can be absolutely vicious to other women while also preaching empowering the next generation. I’ve seen it first hand but we must remember a rising tide lifts all boats.'”

If more celebrities like Tim McGraw and Spiranac can be this “humble and kind,” it would certainly be great for the sports world moving forward.
