Fans of the defending national champion Michigan Wolverines no longer have head coach Jim Harbaugh. Quarterback J.J. McCarthy has joined the professional ranks as a first-round pick of the Minnesota Vikings. A powerhouse program in that of the USC Trojans is joining the Big 10 this coming fall.

Despite still having a talented team, there might be a number of reasons for fans in Ann Arbor to frequent the sauce this college football season.

Those fans don’t have to concern themselves.

The Michigan Wolverines announced plans to sell alcohol inside the Big House for the first time this season. We kid you not.

“Part of the implementation process included the athletic department collaborating and regularly meeting with campus partners — including the Office of Student Life, Division of Public Safety and Security, Risk Management and Government Relations — to ensure a safe and responsible rollout of alcohol sales at Crisler and Yost, which began in February.”

Michigan announced in a press release

It is no longer rare for college football programs to sell alcohol within stadiums. Rewind a decade, and this was definitely an exception to the rule. However, there has to be some concern regarding selling alcohol within Michigan Stadium. After all, it houses north of 107,000 fans.

Michigan made sure to note that there have been no reported behavorial “issues” within Host Ice Arena (hockey) and the Crisler Center (basketball) since this policy took hold.

That’s great news.

But again, 107,000 fans. Many of them college students. Have you ever been to a college kegger or a frat party? Yeah.

Under the leadership of new head coach Sherrone Moore, Michigan has several huge games inside the Big House this season. That includes the likes of the Texas Longhorns (September 7), USC Trojans (September 21), rival Michigan State Spartans (October 26) and Oregon Ducks (November 2).

We’d keep an eye out on the Texas, USC and Michigan State games. That’s for darn sure.

On a related note, good for Michigan in expecting adults to adult. Whether that actually happens this fall and winter in Ann Arbor remains to be seen.
