The Baltimore Orioles were beating the Philadelphia Phillies so badly on Sunday that the opposing team had to ‘scramble the jets’ to intervene.

Well, maybe that’s not exactly true.

Still, fans at Camden Yards got treated to a bit of an airshow during the game prompting the home plate umpire to have to call time on multiple occasions due to the noise.

Or maybe he just wanted fans to be able to look up at the sky and let out some ‘ooohs’ and ‘ahhhs’.

Either way, we’re pretty sure having to delay a game due to jet fighters flying overhead might be a first in Major League Baseball.

Orioles Game Interrupted By Fighter Jets

Turns out the fighter jets interrupting the Orioles-Phillies game were from Baltimore’s Fleet Week air shows. The show’s schedule included flyovers of military and civilian aircraft.

Most of the time, the jets were relatively quiet. But when they weren’t – Lookout!

Baltimore outfielder Colton Cowser said the planes were doing maneuvers throughout the week and both he and the fans thought it was pretty cool to watch.

“When I saw that first one come through, and I was like, ‘Oh well, looks like we’re doing it again.’ I thought it was really cool,” he said. “I think both fan bases kind of came together.”

Went To A Baseball Game And An Airshow Broke Out

It’s a good thing Mike Estabrook was the umpire at home for this game. If Angel Hernandez hadn’t retired he probably wouldn’t have even seen the jet fighter at the Orioles game.

Just kidding. We kid because we care, Angel.

Cowser though said it’s one of the most patriotic things he’s ever seen in his baseball career.

“I tell you what. I’ve never felt more American during a baseball game,” Cowser marveled according to the AP. “I was really hoping I’d be hitting during one and someone got a picture or something.”

The Orioles won the game 8-3. Cowser went 2-2 with a home run. And Fleet Week was a big hit.
