WNBA legend Angel McCoughtry is offering her services as an on-court bodyguard for Caitlin Clark.

Clark, as most sports fans know by now, has been targeted for some rough play by her opponents, culminating with an incident in which Chicago Sky role-player Chennedy Carter knocked her to the floor with a hard blindside hip check.

McCoughtry told TMZ Sports that it’s on these ladies to protect their own teammates. The Indiana Fever has been the subject of some scorn for leaving their superstar out to dry and not employing an enforcer to protect her.

“Take care of your players,” the 37-year-old basketball star said. “All of y’all. I don’t care who it is.”

“If somebody is dragging your player down by the neck, I’m in your face. ‘What the hell are you doing?’ Hey, we can go have lunch later, but right now we’re competing. Don’t grab my player like that.”

Angel McCoughtry Offers To Defend Caitlin Clark

Angel McCoughtry last played briefly for the Minnesota Lynx in 2022. She’s been champing at the bit to make a return to the WNBA, feeling she still has more to offer.

And, unlike some of the players today, she knows she’ll contribute fundamentals to whichever team takes a chance on her.

“Someone sign me! I’ll make sure, I’m a vet and I’ll make sure I defend and do what I gotta do,” she said.

McCoughtry said she’d like to sign with a team that has a chance to contend for a title or one with a rookie on it that needs guidance. Like the Fever.

“I would love to play on a team that can contest for a championship or be a vet to help the young ones … like Caitlin Clark,” the former number one overall draft pick said. “She needs that vet around her arm just pushing her through the season.”

One Of The Best Of All Time

Several NBA stars have opined that Clark needs an enforcer on her team. Could Angel be just what the doctor ordered?

Angel McCoughtry, for those who might not be familiar, isn’t just some random player seeking attention off the backs of the Caitlin Clark/Chennedy Carter fiasco.

She’s a legend in the league.

Five-time WNBA All-Star, Rookie of the Year, six-time All-WNBA Team selection, and twice a league scoring champion. That’s who we’re talking about.

McCoughtry is known for her defensive prowess as well (seven-time WNBA All-Defensive First Team), something Clark and the Fever are desperately in need of right now.

ESPN highlighted McCaughtry’s career as they placed her on the list of the greatest WNBA players of all time during the league’s 25th Anniversary.
