Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever are riding sky-high following the Olympic break. They’ve won four straight and six out of their last seven games coming off the league’s month-long hiatus.

They now sit as the sixth seed in the playoffs, comfortably ahead of the Chicago Sky and Atlanta Dream, who are battling it out for the last spot.

Clark, during the stretch, has been on fire, averaging 24.0 points and 8.5 assists per game.

As such, you’re going to find some folks doing their best to use Clark’s stardom to help draw attention to their own careers. Enter Scoops Callahan.

Callahan is a satirical 1920s-esque reporter who pranks various athletes with his questions which sound like, well, they’re straight out of that era.

Caitlin Clark Gets The Scoops Callahan Reporter Treatment

Normally, I’d be scoffing at this reporter’s attempt to get attention by questioning Caitlin Clark. But you have to admit, the Scoops Callahan character is pretty funny.

He sounds like Jay Mohr’s impression of reporters from that same timeframe (“Smoke Lucky’s”). Clark though, had no idea what the heck she was witnessing.

“Caitlin, Caitlin, after giving the Razzmatazz to those Windy City skyscrapers Friday night, what was the biggest wingding game you expected to find today in the shindig against these dynamos from Big D?” Callahan asked following Indy’s 100-93 win over the Dallas Wings on Sunday.

Clark’s facial expressions alternated between being dumbfounded at what she had just heard and searching for a way to respond politely, as she always does.

A representative for the Fever recognized what was going on and simply replied, “Next question please.”

All of it was pretty funny in the end. You have to hand it to good ol’ Scoops – running through the word “Razzmatazz” without stumbling is no easy task.

Who Is Scoops Callahan?

Scoops Callahan is played by Tom Gribble, a sports radio host in the Dallas area. He first came onto the public scene as a character when he asked then-Phoenix Coyotes coach Wayne Gretzky a question in 2005.

“Champ, how do you think the zebras called the show? Were they the cat’s meow, or did they give your boys the business?” he wondered.

He hit former Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers with a gem in 2019 asking about “all-decade torpedo LaVern Dilweg“.

Rodgers couldn’t stop smiling and laughing saying, “I don’t have any idea what you are talking about.”

Here’s a look at Scoops’ best work:

While this was a much funnier exchange, this isn’t Caitlin Clark’s first awkward encounter with a reporter in her rookie season.

Earlier this year, Indianapolis Star reporter Gregg Doyel was suspended and banned from Indiana Fever games following his awkward heart gesture exchange with Clark.
