Mark Cuban went from visible NBA owner and face of the Dallas Mavericks from his courtside perch to a staunch political opponent of Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump.

When Cuban handed the keys to the Mavericks to the Adelson Family last December, he also welcomed the greatest Trump donor in the league to Dallas.

Miriam Adelson acquired the majority of the Mavericks from Cuban in December 2023, selling shares in Sands Las Vegas in the process, and has donated $100 million to Preserve America political action committee (PAC) backing Trump’s 2024 campaign. Adelson is listed by Forbes as the fifth-richest woman in the world with a family net worth of over $32 billion.

OpenSecrets.org lists the Adelson Family as the No. 2 overall political donor in 2023-24, earmarking a grand total of $135.8 million for Republican candidates.

World Wrestling Entertainment’s Vince and Linda McMahon contributed $17,775,935 to Republican candidates.

Denver Broncos co-owner Rob Walton, an heir to the Walmart fortune, donated more than $20 million to Republicans for 2024 races.

Falcons owner Arthur Blank made the strongest sports ownership donation to Democrats with $1.2 million to Kamala Harris’ campaign and $4-plus million total to the party’s candidates.

NFL ownership peers lean heavily conservative based on their recorded donation history. In this campaign cycle, Panthers owner David Tepper contributed almost $3 million to conservative causes and Jets owner Woody Johnson is listed for donations totaling $1.8 million.

Cuban still owns 25 percent of the Mavericks and some very strong opinions about the ’24 election. In a recent ABC interview, Cuban said Trump is not a “normal candidate.” However, Cuban said last week he is openly campaigning for Harris but hasn’t given the candidate “a penny” in donations or made a contribution to any PAC in years.
