ESPN commentator Stephen A. Smith believes if he were to run for President in 2028, he’d have a pretty easy time securing a nomination.
To be clear, yes – we are talking about the Stephen A. Smith we all know and love.
Smith, who made the comments during a recent episode of The Stephen A. Smith Show, had his head inflated by a recent poll showing him making headway in a list of potential Democratic candidates.
He referred to the losing party as “pathetic” after their showing in 2024.
“I might entertain running. I just might change my mind one day. I doubt it, but I might. Because how much would it take to beat y’all?” he chided. “And Trump can’t run again. He’s done.”

Could Stephen A. Smith Run For President?
To be clear, Stephen A. Smith does have a relatively easy path if he were to throw his hat in the ring for President in 2028. Yes, he only garnered 2% of the vote in that hypothetical 2028 Democratic presidential primary, but it was only one percentage point behind former Veep candidate Tim Walz.
Former Vice President Harris didn’t even garner 1% in the 2020 Democrat primaries – and she became the party’s nominee four years later.
So, it’s definitely possible!
In a follow-up interview with Fox News personality Sean Hannity, Smith clarified that it’s very unlikely he would run for President.
“My lifestyle is quite lovely,” he said. “I would not want to ruin that by running for the presidency of the United States of America. I have no interest, but I was just trying to make a profound point.”
As to the profundity of his point, we will have to leave that for you to decide, dear reader.
Indeed, Smith is currently in ongoing contract negotiations with ESPN, with some estimates indicating he’s in line for a possible five-year $100 million contract extension.

He’s Half-Joking
Stephen A. Smith has long toyed with the idea of running for President. In November, he told the ladies of The View that he would strongly consider a presidential run if he felt he had a “legitimate shot” to win.
“I’m half joking, but I kind of mean it,” Smith said. “I mean, I have no desire to be a congressional figure or a senator, but if you came to me and you told me I had a legitimate shot to win the presidency of the United States of America, I would definitely consider it.”

Stephen A. Smith also suggested he could wipe the floor with any presidential candidate when it comes to debating. A thought he’s expressed before.
“I must confess, I wish I could debate some of these guys,” he said. “I’d love to be on the debate stage going up against these guys with the presidency on the line.”
Now we just need Shannon Sharpe to announce his candidacy, and ESPN can hold the debates!
