A wild scene broke out when the Dutch men’s field hockey team and Germany were involved in a fight after the final whistle of their match at the Paris Olympics.
In other news, men’s field hockey is apparently an Olympic event.
The incident occurred after the Netherlands secured a gold medal in a shootout win over Germany.
Tensions escalated when Dutch player Duco Telgenkamp celebrated by making a “shushing” gesture towards the German goalkeeper and giving him a tap on the side of his helmet.
Which is kind of funny, but also led to further confrontation.

Olympic Brawl At Men’s Field Hockey Gold Medal Match
The ‘shushing’ gesture was very unsportsmanlike. Kind of like playing men’s field hockey in the first place.
That said, German goalkeeper Jean-Paul Danneberg did some trash-talking before the match, saying the Dutch team was “scared” and wouldn’t be able to score on him.
“The Dutch players need a very good day to score four goals against us,” he said ahead of the match, according to multiple reports. “So I think we have a mountain, and they will have big problems to climb us… the Dutch are really scared.”
Counting the tiebreaker and regulation, the Dutch scored four goals on the German keeper.
Following Telgenkamp’s taunting, video showed a German star confronting the ‘shusher’ resulting in one of his teammates placing his hands around his neck.
A handful of others jumped into the fray but most of the Dutch players simply celebrated their win.

Who Knew Field Hockey Was So Intense?
The first question that comes to mind is – Why is a men’s field hockey game getting this chippy? Men playing field hockey should not be flexing at this level.
It’s field hockey.
And it’s not like real hockey. There’s no checking.
Official Olympic rules state that players are not allowed to “charge, hit, shove or trip an opponent.”
Which is unfortunate. I’d probably watch if that were allowed.
Still, that Dutch player is probably going to be a legendary folk hero at home for his whole shtick. I mean, are you not entertained?
