In a heartwarming moment that tends to be a hallmark of the Olympic Games, swimmer Ryan Murphy received a special surprise from his wife after winning a bronze medal in the men’s 100-meter backstroke in Paris.
After standing on the podium, celebrating his seventh career Olympic medal, Murphy looked up into the stands to see his wife holding up a sign that read, “Ryan, it’s a girl!”
The unexpected gender reveal left Murphy elated, as he had been expecting a boy.
“We had been guessing for a couple weeks now what the gender was gonna be, so that was a great way to find out,” Murphy said in an interview afterward. “It’s really exciting to learn that I’m going to be a girl dad.”
I’m not usually a big fan of gender reveals. Back in the day, a gender reveal used to be called ‘birth.’ That’s when you found out. Now you have all these lame ways for couples to reveal, an excuse to throw a party and beg for more gifts.
But as far as they go, this one was pretty good.

Ryan Murphy’s Gonna Be A Girl Dad
Ryan Murphy was thrilled to find out the news. He and everyone around him apparently had been thinking the baby was going to be a boy.
“I think that just kind of like lit me up and really brought this night to a whole ‘nother level,” he said.
“We both — we honestly both thought it was going to be a boy. And everyone — like everyone — we were talking to, they thought it was going to be a boy.”
The gender reveal was a touching moment for Murphy and his family, who were all present at the event. And what timing!
The surprise announcement added an extra layer of joy to an already celebratory occasion. Murphy’s family and friends cheered and congratulated the couple on their upcoming addition.

A True Gold Medal Moment
Ryan Murphy is no stranger to gold. But this gender reveal surpasses any gold medal moment he might have had in his career.
Murphy is a highly decorated American swimmer, specializing in backstroke events. He has won a total of seven Olympic medals, including four golds, one silver, and now two bronze, across three Olympic Games.
Murphy is known for his consistency and has been a dominant force in backstroke swimming. He’s set records and won titles at both national and international levels.
But no title is better than Girl Dad. Murphy and his wife will welcome the little lady in January.
