Sydney Sweeney is generating significant Oscar buzz for her transformative performance as pioneering female boxer Christy Martin in the upcoming biopic Christy.

Could that transformation lead her to step into an actual ring? The blonde bombshell is indicating the idea isn’t as far-fetched as fans might think.

In an exclusive interview with Sportscasting, the sultry actress openly toyed with the possibility. She notes that the intense training, as if she were a real boxer, got her hooked on the sport.

“There was a moment in the middle of filming where I was like, ‘Should I give it all up and fight because I love this?’” she told the outlet.

Sweeney has a not insignificant boxing legend backing her.

“Christy said she’d sign me up. So, this isn’t as hypothetical as you actually think it is. Yeah, I’d totally do a charity bout, that’d be so sick,” she said.

Sydney Sweeney – An actress turned boxer?

Sweeney’s intense physical preparation and dedication to the role of Christy Martin have drawn comparisons to other award-worthy transformations, positioning her as a potential contender in the Best Actress category for the Oscars.

Some of the images that have surfaced of her as Martin are shocking, really.

Sydney Sweeney reportedly gained 4o lbs. for the role and trained like a lunatic.

“I started eating,” she told W Magazine. “I weight-trained in the morning for an hour, kickboxed midday for about two hours, and then weight-trained again at night for an hour.”

“I didn’t fit in any of my clothes. I’m usually a size 23 in jeans, and I was wearing a size 27,” she added. “My boobs got bigger. And my butt got huge. It was crazy! I was like, Oh my god.”

Bout in the works?

Sydney Sweeney, in that interview with Sportscasting, continued to explore the possibility of taking part in an actual boxing match, suggesting they already have opponents under consideration.

“Who would I fight? It’s a surprise. You’ll have to wait. I’m serious. You gotta stay tuned for the pay-per-view and you’ll see it,” she said.

For her part, Martin, who trained with Sweeney and suggests she’d like to be the actress’s promoter, teased that she’s already been considering some opponents.

“I have some names that we can’t throw out yet.”

Martin, nicknamed “The Coal Miner’s Daughter,” is a pioneering American boxer who competed professionally from 1989 to 2012. She held the WBC female super welterweight title in 2009 and was featured on undercards for legends like Mike Tyson and Evander Holyfield.

She is widely credited with legitimizing women’s boxing in the United States, becoming the first female boxer to appear on the cover of Sports Illustrated in 1996, under the headline “The Lady Is a Champ.”

Sweeney’s various other skills, outside of acting and now, apparently, boxing, include videos she’s posted of restoring her own Ford Bronco and showcasing her “water surfing” skills to fans.

Oh, and downing hot dogs at the World Series like a champ.

What would be her best asset in the ring?

“I think what would get me through a fight is that I can take a punch. I wouldn’t quit,” she said.
