Former Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Jon Gruden took a shot at North Carolina Tar Heels General Manager Mike Lombardi after the team’s head coach was spotted with his girlfriend on the sidelines this past weekend.
That head coach, of course, is Bill Belichick. The girlfriend, a 24-year-old former cheerleader in Jordon Hudson.
Hudson was spotted chatting with the 73-year-old coach on the sideline before the team’s loss to the University of Central Florida (UCF) Knights. Whatever was said, it clearly wasn’t enough to inspire the coach or his team to victory.
UCF soundly defeated the Tar Heels, 34-9.
Gruden, during an appearance as a commentator on “Wake Up Barstool” on Monday, took a jab at Lombardi over the circus-type atmosphere playing out at UNC.
“I’ve never seen anything like that,” Gruden said. “Mike Lombardi works for North Carolina. I’ve heard him criticize me several times. I’m sure he’ll produce a TikTok today explaining exactly what was going on.”

Jon Gruden not thrilled to see Hudson on the Sidelines
Gruden and Lombardi clearly have a little bit of a history, as evidenced by these latest remarks. The two previously worked together with the Philadelphia Eagles and the Las Vegas Raiders.
Lombardi, according to the New York Post, has taken his own shots at Gruden in the past, suggesting he’d rather have “20 hours of root canals in one day” than work with the Super Bowl-winning coach again.
Fox NFL analyst Greg Olsen, who appeared in the same segment as Gruden, tried to be a little more straightforward in his commentary about Hudson being on the sidelines. He took the ‘to each their own’ tact.

“Listen, I don’t think Belichick necessarily cares what anyone thinks,” Olsen opined.
“He obviously values her opinion in a lot of factors. Do I care if a coach’s wife, girlfriend, kids are on the sidelines? … I don’t necessarily care, but I guess to each their own,” he added. “At the end of the day, if you win… she can wear a headset if they’re winning.”

Distractions Galore
It should be pointed out that UNC isn’t exactly winning to the point where these distractions can be overlooked. And Jon Gruden’s TikTok jab perfectly encapsulates the juvenile program being run down in Chapel Hill.
He’s not the only NFL mind to point that out.
Rob Gronkowski, who won three Super Bowls with Belichick, also spoke about the situation at North Carolina, particularly the mess caused by having a 73-year-old coach dating someone nearly half a century younger than him.
“That’s a little surprising to me,” he said of the situation. “Because he was all about eliminating distractions.”
“You know, and in the back of your head, too, you’re just thinking to yourself as well, ‘When you were on the Patriots, the whole goal was to eliminate all the distractions that can possibly happen while you’re on the team,’” he added.
“And don’t bring those distractions to the team and in the locker room, and we’re just looking down at the program in North Carolina, and it feels like there are just distractions 24/7 down there.”
The distractions are there. The team is getting shellacked by their opponents. And Belichick isn’t actually making a case to get back to coaching in the NFL anytime soon.
