A company owned by Bill Belichick, the 73-year-old North Carolina football coach, and managed by his 24-year-old girlfriend, Jordon Hudson, is trying to trademark a phrase that could almost assuredly apply to their own situation.

Belichick owns TCE Rights Management LLC, a company that recently filed to trademark the term “Gold Digger” for use on jewelry and key chains.

I mean, you can’t make this stuff up.

Hudson, a former cheerleader, has been dating Belichick for some time, with rumors of their engagement circulating widely in recent months. She has faced accusations of being a “gold digger” due to the significant age gap between them.

Almost half a century separates the pair.

Oxford Languages defines the phrase “gold digger” as “a person who forms a relationship with another purely to extract money from them.”

Bill Belichick Pursuing ‘Gold Digger’

Trying to trademark the term “gold digger” seems like a blatant attempt to snatch the phrase from public discourse so it can’t be used to describe Hudson. And it seems like an idea a child might come up with.

So it makes sense that Jordon is behind it.

Look, you’re not going to get people to stop talking about your May 2025-December of 1975 romance just by trademarking a term that best describes you.

Will the company attempt to trademark the term ‘fortune hunter’ as well? Or ‘opportunist’? Mercenary, user, leecher, parasite, bloodsucker, and money hunter are also out in the public realm.

What else are they trying to Trademark?

Under Hudson’s direction, the company owned by Bill Belichick has submitted a total of 17 trademark applications in early 2025.

Other filings include phrases like “Chapel Bill,” “Belestrator,” “Trail of Salty Tears,” “No Days Off,” and “The Belichick Way.”

Chapel Bill, a nod to North Carolina’s Chapel Hill, is pretty clever. Social media reaction to the “Trail of Salty Tears,” a reference to the Trail of Tears – a forced migration of American Indian tribes from their homelands in the Southeastern United States in the 1830s – was appropriately vicious.

I ain’t sayin’ she a gold digger, but Bill Belichick’s girlfriend is clearly not that bright.
