Video has emerged of Bryson DeChambeau standing up for a young fan who just had a souvenir golf ball swiped away by an adult at the PGA Championship.

The golf ball was from DeChambeau himself. And despite being in the middle of competing for a major championship, he took time to help out the young boy along the sidelines.

His actions earned him a response from the crowd: “Man for the people.”

After walking off the 9th hole on Sunday and heading to the 10th tee, DeChambeau tossed a golf ball meant for a young fan. Instead, an older man swooped in like a seagull trying to grab a bag of chips on the beach. The man got the ball and took off running.

This prompted DeChambeau to turn around, point the man out with his putter, and repeatedly shout, “Hey!”

The man was eventually shamed into returning the prized gift to the young boy.

Bryson DeChambeau: Man Of The People?

Golf also reported two other occurrences during the PGA Championship in which Bryson DeChambeau endeared himself to the fans.

There was a moment earlier in the week, they note, in which DeChambeau celebrated an eagle by Tommy Fleetwood on the final hole Friday that allowed him to make the cut into the weekend.

The two were nearly equally as excited about Fleetwood’s moment.

And, DeChambeau also handled his one-stroke defeat in the Championship with class. He was the first to greet and congratulate Xander Schauffele after his victory.

Fan Favorite

Bryson DeChambeau played golf at Southern Methodist University (SMU) and turned pro in 2016. But he wasn’t always considered a ‘man of the people.’

As Golf notes, he has managed to “completely re-characterize(d) himself from a PGA Tour villain, who might have been too smart for his own good, to a fan-favorite over the past few years.”

Social media is littered with video clips of DeChambeau giving golf fans – particularly younger ones – souvenirs after matches, signing autographs, and typically being the first to congratulate an opponent after they win a tournament.

In a world where the news is often filled with stories of conflict and division, it’s refreshing to see a story of a man standing up for a young golf fan. Even if it’s just a golf ball.

It’s a reminder that sometimes, the smallest actions can have the biggest impact. And for that, we salute you, Bryson DeChambeau.
