After analyst Paul Azinger’s contract was not renewed by NBC Sports, popular golfing personality Paige Spiranac says that she’ll take the job
Legendary golfer and NBC Sports color commentator Paul Azinger will not return to the network after his contract wasn’t renewed recently. And while it came as a shock to longtime viewers, at least one personality was happy to step in and fill the void. Golf influencer Paige Spiranac answered a fan online who asked if she would be interested in Azinger’s former gig.
Firstly, the 1993 PGA Championship winner showed his usual class in saying goodbye to the network and the viewership. Azinger played for three decades on the PGA TOUR, claiming 12 PGA Tour victories in his career. He had been with NBC Sports for the past five years.
“I have treasured working beside Dan Hicks and the other talented NBC broadcasters as well as lead producer Tommy Roy and all those behind the scenes,” Azinger said. “They are a remarkable team, and I will miss them tremendously. My thanks to them and the countless others who have supported me and helped me along the way during my work in television. I have faith in what the future holds for me, for NBC, and for the great game of golf.”
When the news broke, a fan playfully asked Paige Spiranac about the potential of her becoming a part of the peacock’s programming.
“@PaigeSpiranac there’s a rumor you’ll be replacing Paul Azinger on the NBC Golf broadcasts. Can you confirm? If it’s just a rumor then we need to create a campaign to get you that job!” the X poster asked.
Paige Spiranac, 30, gave an interesting response to the intriguing question.
“I’m a woman of the people. And the people want me to replace Paul Azinger. You can’t deny I’d bring two big attributes to the table. My personality and golf knowledge of course,” she jokingly replied.
Spiranac has risen to fame cultivating her image as the blonde bombshell who knows her way around the course. She’s garnered followers all around the globe who enjoy her good looks, personality, and unique style in presenting the game of golf. While it’s unlikely she’s a fit for NBC, she’s certainly found her niche in and around the game.
As far as NBC’s golf coverage is concerned, Paul Azinger isn’t alone. The network has now parted ways with three of its longtime announcers; Roger Maltbie and Gary Koch were also let go in the past year. Maltbie had been with NBC since 1991, and Koch started with the company in 1997.
