Tiger Woods is one of the most legendary athletes of all time. Now, a former president and first lady are reportedly looking to bring his story to life on the big screen.
Woods Biopic In The Works
A spokesperson for Amazon MGM Studios has confirmed to People Magazine that the studio has obtained the rights to the Woods biography The Tiger Slam: The Inside Story of the Greatest Golf Ever Played. This book was written by Kevin Cook, and it came out back in December.
As if that’s not exciting enough for Tiger, Barack and Michelle Obama are reportedly in talks to sign on to this project as producers through their Higher Ground production company. Meanwhile, Reinaldo Marcus Green, who directed the tennis biopic King Richard in 2021, is being looked at to potentially direct.
The synopsis of Tiger Slam states that it is a “gripping, inside-the-ropes account of an astonishing streak of victories that left Woods’s rivals scrambling to keep up.” Indeed, it includes accounts from “many of golf’s biggest names — Tiger’s caddie, his coach, his opponents, his idols and others, all offering fresh insight into the electrifying highs of his victories and the obstacles on and off the course that threatened his relentless pursuit of perfection.”
The Obamas launched Higher Ground in 2018, one year after they moved out of the White House. Since then, they’ve been behind various film and television projects. These include Rustin, Leave the World Behind and the recent docuseries Our Oceans and Court of Gold. The Obamas also joined forces with LeBron James‘ Uninterrupted and Peyton Manning’s Omaha Productions to produce Starting 5.
Woods and former President Obama have a long history. During his time in office, Obama travelled to Florida to play rounds of golf with Woods. In 2014, Woods visited the Obama White House during a celebration of the Presidents Cup American and International golf teams.
Woods Ruptures His Achilles
Sadly, this comes at a difficult time for Woods. On Wednesday, he announced that he has ruptured his Achilles tendon. This will almost definitely knock him out for the rest of this year’s golf season.
“As I began to ramp up my own training and practice at home, I felt a sharp pain in my left Achilles, which was deemed to be ruptured,” Woods wrote on social media. “This morning, Dr. Charlton Stucken of Hospital for Special Surgery in West Palm Beach, Florida performed a minimally-invasive Achilles tendon repair for a ruptured tendon.”
“The surgery went smoothly, and we expect a full recovery,” added Dr. Stucken.
“I am back home now and plan to focus on my recovery and rehab,” Woods concluded. “Thank you for all the support.”

Woods’ Mother Dies
Last month, Woods was left devastated when his beloved mother Katilda died suddenly. She was 78 years-old.
“It is with heartfelt sadness that I want to share that my dear mother, Kultida Woods, passed away early this morning,” Woods wrote on social media. “My Mom was a force of nature all her own, her spirit was simply undeniable….she was quick with the needle and a laugh.”
“She was my biggest fan, greatest supporter, without her none of my personal achievements would have been possible,” he continued. “She was loved by so many, but especially by her two grandchildren, Sam and Charlie. Thank you all for your support, prayers and privacy at this difficult time for me and my family. Love you Mom.”
