Season 3 of Netflix’s Full Swing is here, and it’s serving up some new info on one of the most jaw-dropping moments in recent golf history: Scottie Scheffler’s arrest before the second round of the 2024 PGA Championship.

If ever a show about golf could be made fascinating, this is the story to do it.

This will be a good holdover, but honestly, they should make a full-feature movie on this story. And go comedy with it. Cole Hauser as Scheffler, countered by Paul Walter Hauser as Officer Bryan Gillis. Ripped pants entered into evidence, Gillis promoted to try them on in court alá OJ Simpson and the glove.

That’s a hit in the making. Whew, went off on a tangent there. Anyway, lets rehash the basis of this story.

Scheffler, you may recall, was shockingly arrested before the second round of the PGA Championship back in May. Like, right before. As in, literally on his way into the course.

He was initially handcuffed and charged with numerous violations, including felony second-degree assault of a police officer stemming from a traffic incident.

He spent the morning in a jail cell and then came out and shot a round of 66. Charges were later rightfully dropped when the officer’s claims didn’t hold up based on the evidence.

‘Full Swing’ Delves Into The Scottie Scheffler Arrest

Full Swing is a Netflix docuseries that offers an in-depth, behind-the-scenes look at the lives and careers of professional golfers, capturing their triumphs, struggles, and personal moments on and off the course.

Scheffler’s arrest indeed amounts to a highly personal struggle that never should have happened, and frankly cries out for justice.

Newly released footage shows the world’s number one golfer indeed pressing his claims that the traffic infraction he was accused of was a big misunderstanding.

“I’m terribly sorry. I’m just trying to get to my tee time. I’ll keep my arms back there, I promise,” Scheffler said as he was handcuffed.

He explains to an officer that he’s actually playing in the Major championship and not simply an overzeaous spectator.

“Are you guys aware that I’m playing in the golf tournament?” Scheffler asked prompting an officer to reply, “I assume you’re pretty good if you’re playing in the PGA.”

“Yeah, I’m all right,” the two-time Masters champ replies.

He Was ‘Freaking Out’

The handling of this incident from start to finish was an embarrassment for Officer Gillis and the entire Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD).

Scheffler was facing serious jail time based on the charges and likely had his performance in the PGA Championship negatively affected (despite shooting a round of 66 on the same day as the arrest), all because of overzealous street cops.

Gillis alleged that Scheffler dragged him to the ground while he was trying to provide instruction for the golfer regarding a traffic tie-up following a fatal pedestrian accident.

The evidence, including video and witness commentary to the contrary, didn’t seem to support the assertion, but the LMPD was willing to take the case to court regardless. It was eventually dropped when they realized they had no chance of winning.

Scheffler opted not to file a lawsuit “because at the end of the day, the people of Louisville are then going to have to pay for the mistakes of their police department, and that just doesn’t seem right.”

“I was freaking out because I somehow went from driving to the golf course to a jail cell, and I still don’t really know how that happened exactly. I don’t think it really ever felt real,” Scheffler says in the documentary.

Season 3 of Full Swing is now airing on Netflix.
