You can tell a lot about a person by their friends. That’s an old axiom that probably isn’t too much in use today.
But it’s true of Grayson Murray’s friends, who honored him in a heartfelt, touching way at last weekend’s Korn Ferry Tour UNC Health Championship.
Grayson Murray Passed Last Week
Grayson Murray, 30, passed away on May 25. The official cause of death was tragically ruled a suicide.
Just the day before, Murray had dropped out of the Charles Schwab Challenge, citing illness as the reason for his absence. It’s reported that the young golfer had suffered from depression and alcohol abuse.
Murray’s parents confirmed the tragic cause of death shortly after, thanking Grayson’s friends and fans for their support:
“We have spent the last 24 hours trying to come to terms with the fact that our son is gone,” Eric and Terry Murray said. “It’s surreal that we not only have to admit it to ourselves, but that we also have to acknowledge it to the world. It’s a nightmare.”
It’s hard to even imagine what his parents, family, and friends are going through during this difficult time.

Tributes Pour In For Grayson Murray
Many more tributes for the young golfer poured in.
Scottie Scheffler, the world’s current No. 1 ranked golfer, said, “I got to know him fairly well over the last few months, shared a couple meals with him, played a couple practice rounds. I was with him for a few hours, he was at our rental house last week. It’s a tough day for all of us out here on tour and we’re thinking about his family and we’re praying hard for them, for sure.”
Rickie Fowler was devastated by the news, saying, “I’m at a loss for words… just complete shock! We played some practice rounds together this year and got paired together at multiple tournaments… we shared a lot of good times!” he wrote on Instagram. “My thoughts and prayers to your family and close friends… I wish there was something I could have done! I’m going to miss you man!”
It’s a terrible tragedy when young lives are lost too soon. But it sounds like Grayson Murray enriched the lives of all those around him during his short time on earth.
