John Daly is an athlete like no other. He’s the Everyman pro-athlete that inspires the middle-age Dad in all of us.

But that’s a lot of work, and it consumes a lot of energy. That’s why John Daly sticks to a diet reserved only for high-flying athletes.

His latest spread at the PGA Championship at Valhalla in Louisville, Kentucky proves the king of golf still has it.

John Daly’s Daily Food Intake at Valhalla

Daly is known for having the most hilarious diet of any pro athlete. Many times, it consists entirely of cigarettes and diet Coke.

At Valhalla yesterday, he switched it up a little bit and added a new wrinkle. Hat tip to Barstool Sports for tallying the goods:

Count ’em:

  • Four Snickers bars
  • Two packs of cigarettes (Still Marby Lights, John?)
  • Two bottles of Coke

It’s interesting to note that Daly swapped the diet Coke for regular Coke. Sometimes champions stick to their routines, sometimes they switch it up in the hopes of gaining an edge.

Ufortunately, Daly did not find that edge, as he shot a +11, which was only good for 154th place on the leaderboard. That’s just two spots back from dead last.

May I be so bold as to say: Mr. Daly – it’s time to bust out the glizzies (hot dogs, for you old timers) and the diet Cokes again.

John Daly: Legend

It’s been a rather long time since John Daly was competitive, but he’s been good enough to play on the pro tour for decades.

Daly got his start in college, when he qualified for but didn’t play in the 1986 U.S. Open. He played in the more minor tournaments for a few years until his big break in 1991.

That year, he won the PGA Championship, despite being an alternate. But it’s his flamboyant style that made him a sort of Happy Gilmore-like figure. The wild outfits, the chain smoking, and the hilarious Babe Ruth diet all added up to his Everyman status.
