Legendary golfer Phil Mickelson has been in a huge rut recently while taking part in LIV Golf. The 45-time PGA Tour winner and six-time Major champion has struggled big time.
Mickelson, 54, has earned just one top-20 finish on the circuit this season. As for the PGA Tour, he missed the cut in two of the four Majors he’s appeared in.
All of this comes after Mickelson inked a $200 million deal to move from the PGA to the Saudi-backed LIV Golf. It’s certainly not a great look for him.
Mickelson also understands that the golfer’s struggles are impacting his team. Could this lead to him stepping aside at some point soon?
“I see glimpses and my teammates see glimpses of me being where I expect to be able to compete at this level, but I’m also realistic with myself, and if I’m not able to I’ll step aside and let somebody come on in and take the HyFlyers to new levels,” Mickelson said at a press conference, via Rueters.
“I’m in every major on the regular tour next year, and I’ll be in three of the four majors for the next six, seven years. I would love to compete and give myself a chance to win in those, and I also want to build this out and create a culture that is sustainable and that people strive to be a part of.”

Phil Mickelson Openly Talks About Giving Up LIV Golf
Mickelson’s comments came during a press conference ahead of an LIV Golf event next week in Illinois. He’s received exemptions to the Masters Tournament, U.S. Open and PGA Championship by winning all three. Continuing to play in those seem to be a major goal of his moving forward.
Lefty was also asked about the possibility of LIV Golf and the PGA merging. He said that he’s not involved in those conversations.
“I’m not part of those conversations. At 54, my schedule and my desires are going to be totally different than most of the players,” said Mickelson.
There has been some major drama between the two professional golf leagues. Mickelson himself has been heavily involved in said drama.
Apparently, he now wants none of it.
