Golf legend Phil Mickelson expressed dismay over California’s sky-high gas prices in a series of social media posts on Wednesday. And why wouldn’t he? Why wouldn’t anybody in that state be outraged at what is taking shape?
Gas prices in the Golden State currently exceed $5 per gallon—the nation’s highest—and are projected to rise as high as $8.43 next year due to refinery closures and Democratic policies that prioritize climate goals over common sense.
Mickelson reshared images of the exorbitant prices at the pump, one showing gas at $2.99 per gallon in neighboring Arizona, another showing $4.99 per gallon in Cali. He captioned them with a dire prediction.
“This is sad and going to get worse,” the three-time Masters champ wrote.

Phil Mickelson praises one candidate’s plan
Mickelson was just getting warmed up when it came to lamenting California’s high gas prices, highlighting disruptions to oil supplies that affect California and neighboring states.
He reshared a story about California importing most of its crude oil while Governor Gavin Newsom “travels 5,000 miles” to the UN Climate Summit “to kvetch about (the alleged) world climate crisis.”
In 1982, California satisfied 62% of its petroleum from in-state oil producers. Today we import 65% of our crude oil, and California imports 50% of oil extracted from the Amazon rainforest.

Phil Mickelson heaped praise on Republican gubernatorial candidate Steve Hilton for advocating offshore oil drilling off California’s coast. It’s part of a White House-backed plan to produce local gas and slash prices to around $3 per gallon.
“Finally, someone speaking common sense,” he said of Hilton.

Lefty is done with lefty politics
A former California resident who relocated to Florida to escape high taxes, Phil Mickelson has increasingly used his platform to critique leftist policies and support conservative figures amid the state’s ongoing energy crisis.
Ironic for a guy known as “Lefty.”
Last month, he took a sarcastic swipe at the nationwide “No Kings” protests against President Trump and took aim at the previous occupant of the White House in the process.
“On this special day, as we all gather to fight against blanket auto pen pardons and executive orders, lawlessness, and stealing citizens’ resources for illegal non-citizens, I believe it has worked!” he sarcastically wrote on X.
“That is no longer happening, so great job, everyone.”

Prior to that, Mickelson raised eyebrows by suggesting Minnesota Representative Ilhan Omar should be deported back to her native Somalia.
“Ilhan spews hate every time she opens her mouth, she came here fraudulently and will hopefully be sent back to Somalia soon,” Mickelson wrote.
Omar had openly mocked assassination victim Charlie Kirk at the time.
It’s fitting that Phil Mickelson is standing up for the people. He has, after all, been the people’s champion throughout his career.
Mickelson captured six major championships—three Masters titles (2004, 2006, 2010), two PGA Championships (2005, 2021), and the 2013 Open Championship—before joining LIV Golf in 2022.
