Golf’s top player Scottie Scheffler had some very relatable thoughts on being a new father that lots of dads out there have probably experienced themselves.
Scheffler and his wife Meredith welcomed their first child, a baby boy named Bennett, on May 8, 2024. The healthy baby boy’s arrival occurred just before the PGA Championship.
In an interview with Barstool Sports, the two-time Masters champion was asked if some of his new dad energy translated to length on his drives.
“No additional yardage,” he admitted.
“I would say, you know the first couple months of Bennett being alive, like when they’re born, you’re so nervous holding him that you’re gonna like somehow break your child so that you like tense up and hold him.”
What Dad didn’t initially think they were going to break their kid in the first few months? This writer can surely relate.

Scottie Scheffler Reveals Some ‘Soft Golf Injuries’ Since The Baby Arrived
Scheffler added some more relatable content regarding the arrival of his son, Bennett. Specifically regarding the aches and pains that come with being a new Dad.
“It was actually really bad for my back the first couple months. Now that I’ve relaxed a little bit, it’s a little bit easier to hold him, but it was like clockwork,” Scheffler said. “We get home from a tournament and two days in a rib would pop out or something like that holding them, bouncing on, like just soft little golf injuries.”
Wait. Is a rib popping out a common thing? It sounds rather significant. It definitely doesn’t sound like a ‘little golf injury’.
Might want to get that looked into.
By the way, I already know where this is going, ladies. The man here complaining about some soft injuries and a bad back when you just carried the child for 9 months and actually gave birth to them.
And this guy’s complaining. Pfft!

Tiger Woods Had Some Advice For The New Dad
Within days of Bennett entering Meredith and Scottie Scheffler’s world, one golf legend offered advice for his professional golf colleague.
His name is Tiger Woods.
And as any new Dad at one point can attest, Tiger’s advice was also totally relatable.
“As a dad who is a golf professional, what advice would you have for Scottie Scheffler?” Golf’s Nick Piastowski asked the 15-time major championship winner and father of two.
“Get some sleep,” Woods quickly replied.
“I mean, he’s got obviously he and Meredith, fantastic, having their first, and those are — as all of us who have had children, those are some tough years ahead of them,” he added.
“As I said, try and get some rest as much as you possibly can. He’s the No. 1 player in the world, and having a great, stable family life at home is important to having a great life out here on Tour.”
Scottie Scheffler certainly had an interesting life on tour this past year. He won seven PGA tournaments, including the Masters, his second green jacket. He pulled in $54,228,357 in prize money – the most ever won in a single season.
Scheffler also was shockingly arrested before the second round of the PGA Championship. Scheffler was initially arrested and charged with numerous violations including felony second-degree assault of a police officer stemming from a traffic incident.
He spent the morning in a jail cell and then came out and shot a round of 66.
Charges were later rightfully dropped when the officer’s claims didn’t hold up based on the evidence.
