The European team secured victory in the Ryder Cup at Bethpage on Sunday, overcoming a strong U.S. comeback attempt.
President Donald Trump, an avid golf fan, attended the tournament on Friday, where he received a warm welcome from the crowd. He personally wished his friend Bryson DeChambeau good luck.
The U.S. team started poorly, falling behind early, which set a challenging tone for the competition despite Trump’s presence. But then, a glimmer of hope.
On Sunday, the Americans threatened to erase a seven-point deficit, a historic feat if achieved, but ultimately fell short.
Shane Lowry clinched the win for Europe by holing a crucial 6-foot birdie putt against Russell Henley, securing the half-point needed to retain the trophy.
Following the victory, Rory McIlroy filmed the European team in their locker room chanting, “Are you watching, are you watching Donald Trump?” in a taunting manner.
Great Ryder Cup win today for our friends @JustinRose99 and Mark Fulcher! An amazing achievement! Congratulations to the whole European Team on this fantastic WIN in New York. Fun to watch the celebrations! Enjoy. I love this video: "ARE YOU WATCHING DONALD TRUMP" #RyderCup pic.twitter.com/GqjLEkvEu4

Europe’s Ryder Cup Victory
Team Europe’s Ryder Cup victory had to be especially sweet, considering the chaos that took place at Bethpage involving unruly fans. And it had to be especially sweet for McIlroy in particular.
Rory tore into fans after the tournament when video showed his wife nearly getting pelted with a drink.
The scene at Bethpage was one of utter chaos. The rowdy atmosphere included obscenities and insults hurled at golfers from across the pond. Then, the flying drink scandal surfaced.
“I think golf should be held to a higher standard than what was seen out there this week,” McIlroy told reporters, later adding that, “No, this should not be what is acceptable in the Ryder Cup.”
You can forgive him and the rest of Team Europe for maybe rubbing the win in a bit, considering how badly the fans treated them. That, and the “USA!” chants that kicked off Trump’s appearance, probably motivated these guys to their impressive 15-13 victory.

Trump Responds
President Trump, known for his often fiery rants against opponents, responded to the Team Europe taunts. You might have expected him to go off.
However, one thing Trump most definitely is is an avid golf fan. He appreciates good, solid play. Not to mention an impressive win in difficult circumstances. He can relate to such things.
Which is precisely what the Europeans gave us in the 2025 Ryder Cup.
The President posted the video of McIlroy and company with their playful taunt and gave them a tip of the cap.
“Yes, I’m watching,” he wrote. “Congratulations!”

Golf fans have widely panned American Team Captain Keegan Bradley as the reason for the team’s sound defeat.
Ironically, it was President Trump who encouraged Bradley back in August to play for the team even as captain.
“Keegan Bradley should DEFINITELY be on the American Ryder Cup Team — As Captain!!! He is an AMAZING guy. It will be a great Ryder Cup,” Trump said at the time.
