New York Yankees pitcher Cam Schlittler delivered a masterful performance Thursday night against the Boston Red Sox.
The 24-year-old tossed eight shutout innings with 12 strikeouts to secure a 4-0 victory and advance his team to the ALDS against the Toronto Blue Jays.
Schlittler, a Massachusetts native just called up by the Yankees in July, delivered an ironic shiv to the Red Sox faithful with his performance.
He earned a standing ovation from the Yankee Stadium crowd upon exiting the game. A well-deserved ovation. And he’ll likely go down as one of the biggest villains in New England after adding a dramatic chapter in this bitter rivalry.
But it’s his social media trolling after the game that might have been the most brutal move for the pinstriped phenom.
Cam Schlittler torches Red Sox fan
Before the game, Red Sox superfan and gambling influencer Lucy Burdge boldly predicted “Sox in 3” on social media. She included a picture of herself sporting a Boston jersey.
And while her fans certainly don’t regret getting a look at the stunning beauty’s post for obvious reasons, she may have some regrets over that prediction, which spectacularly went down in flames thanks to Cam Schlittler’s arm.

Perhaps her biggest regret is the fact that her post caught Schlittler’s eye. And the Yankees’ latest star responded to the three-word prediction with a three-word response of his own.
“Not this year,” he replied.
Ouch. Schlittler’s post has been viewed over half a million times.

Burdge responds
Imagine being a relatively unknown sports personality just a few days ago, and your biggest viral break is watching Cam Schlittler nuke you and your team.
Burdge, though, is taking it in stride. She posted a GIF response, waving Cam away, and humorously responded to a New York Post article on Schlittler’s shot with a face emoji, snorting in disgust.
After the game, Schlittler pointed out that his stellar performance would give him the right to taunt fans back home in Massachusetts.
“I had an opportunity to pitch to a good lineup and end their season and get bragging rights over everyone I know back home,” he said.
Cam said it was Red Sox fans who helped motivate him for his pitching masterpiece.
“There’s a line I think they crossed a little bit,” he said. “I’m a competitor. I’m going to go out there and make sure I shut them down. You know Boston fans. It’s just how it is. We’re aggressive back home, and we’re gonna try and get under peoples’ skin. They just picked the wrong guy to do it to—and the wrong team to do it to as well.”
Schlittler and the Yankees will have a chance to continue their magical postseason run against the Blue Jays on Saturday.
