The Los Angeles Dodgers clinched their second consecutive World Series title by defeating the Toronto Blue Jays 5-4 in an absolutely thrilling 11-inning Game 7 on Saturday.

The Dodgers’ victory marks the first back-to-back championship since the New York Yankees in 2000.

As you might expect, thousands of exuberant fans flooded the streets of Los Angeles immediately after the victory, turning intersections in areas like downtown, Echo Park, Pacoima, East Los Angeles, Little Tokyo, and Van Nuys into impromptu block parties. The cheering, flag-waving, and music were an incredible sight.

As is often the case, however, especially in a blue city run by incompetent politicians, celebrations quickly escalated into chaos.

Rowdy crowds lit fireworks, climbed onto cars, and blocked traffic, creating hazardous conditions across the city. Things escalated to the point where law enforcement had to step in.

Dodgers’ victory leads to chaos

Several hotspots quickly developed after the Dodgers’ victory. Fans clashed with police, hurling bottles and fireworks at officers, prompting the Los Angeles Police Department to deploy tear gas to disperse the hostile gatherings.

Deputies moved in to control the crowd.

While many fans reveled in joy, authorities reported isolated incidents of vandalism and potential looting amid the chaos.

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass congratulated the Dodgers on their historic win but issued a stern warning – keep the celebrations safe.

“Once again, we showed the world that LA is the city of champions,” Bass wrote on X. “Celebrate safely and responsibly tonight, Dodgers fans. LAPD is on heightened alert and coordinating with regional law enforcement.”

“There will be no tolerance for anyone who tries to take advantage of this win.”

It didn’t work out so great. The LAPD placed officers on tactical alert, with many donning helmets and gas masks as smoke from fireworks filled the night air and streets echoed with explosions.

An amazing game

Despite the disruptions, the overall mood in LA remained triumphant, with landmarks like City Hall and LAX illuminated in Dodger blue to honor the team’s achievement.

In a thrilling 11-inning Game 7, the Los Angeles Dodgers rallied from a 3-0 deficit. The Blue Jays jumped ahead early on Bo Bichette’s towering three-run homer off Shohei Ohtani in the third.

Max Muncy‘s solo shot in the eighth narrowed the gap to 4-3, while an unlikely hero in Miguel Rojas launched a surprise ninth-inning blast that tied the score at 4-4.

The Dodgers sealed their back-to-back championship with Will Smith‘s historic go-ahead homer in the 11th—the first extra-innings walk-off in a winner-take-all World Series game. Yoshinobu Yamamoto, the series MVP, induced a game-ending double play from Vladimir Guerrero Jr. in the bottom half to preserve the 5-4 victory.

The Dodgers are set to return home for a victory parade on Monday, where officials hope fans will channel their energy into organized festivities.
