New York Mets outfielder Brandon Nimmo was forced to miss his team’s game at Nationals Park on Monday night hours after he fainted and hit his head in a hotel bathroom.
Nimmo Faints In Hotel Bathroom
Reportedly, Nimmo woke up confused inside a hotel bathroom on Monday morning. First-year Mets manager Carlos Mendoza spoke out afterwards to confirm that Nimmo cut his forehead. Thankfully, the 31 year-old outfielder managed to avoid a concussion.
“He went through all the tests this morning,” Mendoza said. “Wanted to make sure we weren’t missing anything. Luckily, everything came back negative. So, I think we got lucky there.”
“He’s got a pretty big cut,” he added.
Nimmo remembers waking up not feeling well just before 5am on Monday. He then made his way to the bathroom, where he cramped up and fainted. When he regained consciousness, he was on the bathroom floor bleeding from his head, and he had no idea why.
A more terrifying incident, we could not come up with.
Nimmo managed to get up and call the Mets’ trainers, who made their way to his hotel room to help him. He was then rushed to the hospital, where he underwent various tests.
Nimmo returned to the ballpark later that day with a bandage on his forehead. He made a point of saying that the bandage was just a precaution, however.

Nimmo Breaks His Silence
“I never had anything like this happen where I blacked out and I literally cannot tell you what happened,” Nimmo told The New York Times. He added that he “had all kinds of guys with me yesterday who can vouch that I didn’t have any alcohol. I didn’t drink at all. I’m not really sure why this happened.”
Nimmo went on to say that he’s never fainted before.
“It scared me,” Nimmo said. “That’s why I called Joe right away. I was trying to figure out, OK, you don’t just faint. What happened? Is there something bigger? An underlying issue? That’s why we needed to check all the boxes.”
Nimmo explained that doctors have told him that the cramp caused his blood pressure to spike. This led to his heart rate increasing dramatically. That would explain why his hands were tingling and he felt hot before fainting.
“I asked them if there was anything I could do to prevent this from happening again, and they said, no — sometimes a perfect storm happens,” Nimmo said. “From what I understood, your brain, when you go back and your blood pressure drops, your brain just loses the blood for one second, and you’re out.”

Nimmo Sits Out One Game, Then Returns To Playing
During Monday night’s game against the Washington Nationals, Nimmo was replaced by Jeff McNeil. Nimmo was able to return to the Mets’ lineup Tuesday night, and he finished the game with two hits.
Nimmo has been with the Mets for nine seasons. He is hitting .247 with 13 homers, a team-high 52 RBIs and an .824 OPS in 78 games this season.
After Tuesday night’s game, Nimmo said that his fainting spell has put things in perspective for him.
“Feels amazing,” Nimmo told SNY TV. “When things like this happen, it’s a fresh perspective on being able to play this game and at this level on a daily basis. When it’s taken away from you, briefly, you realize how special it is and enjoy the little things a little bit more.”
We can only hope that this fainting spell isn’t indicative of something more serious for Nimmo. Please join us in saying a prayer for him as he continues his recovery!
