Patrick Mahomes Sr. had to admit what we here at Bounding Into Sports have known all along – the confrontation between him and former MLB pitcher John Rocker on Bourbon Street last week was staged.
Making it just a little crazier? Mahomes had to make the admission to a court of law.
Why? Because the dude is on “intense supervision” after a sweetheart plea deal for his third DWI, and he forgot to pee in a cup as required by said agreement.
As reported on these pages, a viral video showed Rocker “randomly” confronting Mahomes Sr. on Bourbon Street in New Orleans during Super Bowl weekend. Barstool Sports posted the video, then later announced that the pair had signed for an exhibition boxing match.
It seemed like a coincidence to absolutely nobody.
Still, Barstool founder Dave Portnoy announced the fight and insisted the melee caught on video was not staged by any stretch of the imagination.
Mahomes Rocker Video Was Staged
Circling back to the video confrontation, apparently Mahomes, the father of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes II, was so locked in on his bit with Rocker that he forgot he had a urine test on the same day.
Officials wanted to know what happened. And Papa Mahomes had to fess up to the court because you can’t be nearly getting into a street fight – on a street named after a type of whiskey, no less – when you’re on “intense supervision” for your third DWI.
Court documents indicate Mahomes’ dad admitted that the Rocker incident “was a staged altercation to get publicity for [a] celebrity boxing match that was set to take place in April 2025.”
I hate to say I told you so, but I definitely told you so.
It’s official. The paperwork was signed today. Pat Mahomes Sr vs John Rocker at Rough N Rowdy. April 19th. Real bad blood. @roughnrowdy https://t.co/Ax3r40WBwa pic.twitter.com/abVsaD5oGE

Why Are They Fighting?
Portnoy contends that Rocker and Mahomes are fighting because there’s a lot of “bad blood” from their baseball playing days.
Rocker was a closer for the Braves, and he started his career on fire in 1998 before controversies and taunting fans threw him off course. Mahomes Sr. had his best season with the New York Mets in 1999, posting an 8–0 record during 39 middle-relief appearances, and helped the team reach the playoffs.
Whatever “bad blood” they had was not publicly covered, as there are no records of Rocker and Mahomes getting into any altercations during their playing days. Staged or otherwise. Maybe just from the competition of playing the same position?
Additionally, Rocker looks like a beast right now, while Mahomes might barely outweigh David Hogg. Both men are in their 50s. Why would anybody watch this?
If you’d like to see this train wreck of a celebrity boxing match, have a look at it. The “Beef on Bourbon Street” will take place on April 18th.
Hopefully, Mahomes will remember to pee in a cup before the fight.
