Los Angeles Dodgers star Max Muncy found himself upstaged by an unexpected rival during a wild moment at the MLB Tokyo Series on Wednesday.

The culprit? Former NFL quarterback Rodney Peete. And Peete wasn’t on the diamond or in the game.

Muncy dashed toward the stands to snag a foul ball pop-up during the Dodgers 6-3 victory over the Chicago Cubs, only for Peete—sitting in the crowd with his wife—to swoop in and catch it with his glove.

It was an impressive effort on Peete’s part. People tend to forget that QBs need great catchin’ mitts.

Muncy, however, was clearly not amused. Was he mad at the fan catching the ball, or mad that he wasn’t able to get to it himself?

Either way, the look on Peete’s face in this clip, accompanied by the Curb Your Enthusiasm theme song, is too funny.

Rodney Peete Leaves Max Muncy Fuming

Rodney Peete is no slouch when it comes to baseball, so it’s not much of a surprise that he got one over on Max Muncy.

MLB teams drafted the former USC standout athlete multiple times before he eventually chose football.

Peete’s catch wasn’t a Steve Bartman-esque interference, as Muncy’s odds were slim with the netting in play. The replay clearly shows the former Lions quarterback’s glove below Muncy’s when he grabbed it, so the Dodger third baseman had already biffed it.

Plus, at least it didn’t end in the same manner as the Mookie Betts incident during the World Series. You may recall that travesty in which a Yankees fan tried to rip Betts’ glove off while another latched onto his other wrist to lend an assist.

It was one of the most absurd scenes you’ll ever see in an MLB game.

Peete’s Wife Chimes In

Following the game, Rodney Peete’s wife took to social media to let Max Muncy know that her man wasn’t about to let her get hit with a foul ball.

“Head on a swivel That’s why they gave us helmets and gloves just in case!!” she wrote on Instagram. “That thing was coming straight for my head!!!”

“My former QB (thrice MLB drafted 3rd baseman) might be retired but what he’s not gonna do is let me get hit Sorry Max!” the proud wife stated.

Anyway, no harm, no foul for Muncy and the Dodgers.

LA won the game, completing the sweep in the first series of the MLB season in Tokyo. Shohei Ohtani wowed fans with his first home run of the season, while rookie pitching sensation Roki Sasaki had a nice debut.
