As a Dodgers fan, it’s easy to view New York Yankees fans as trash. I get it. I’m biased. It’s an intense rivalry spanning decades. But they sure do tend to make it a whole lot easier to view them as such after their actions during Game 4 of the World Series.
One Yankees fan actually pried open the glove of Los Angeles Dodgers right fielder Mookie Betts and removed a ball he had just caught during a play early on in the game.
Yes, the crime situation in NYC is so out of control, an MLB player can’t even be sure he won’t be robbed in Yankee Stadium and during live gameplay!
The incident occurred when Gleyber Torres hit a foul pop-up in the first inning, which Betts caught while near the padded wall. While one multi-chinned fan was trying to yank Betts’ glove off, another actually grabbed the outfielder’s wrist during the altercation.
Security quickly intervened, ensuring the fans involved were removed from the stadium. The play was ruled as fan interference, and Torres was called out.
This is insane.

Mookie Betts goes into the stands to catch a ball and a fan grabbed his glove and ripped the ball out.
He was just kicked out of the stadium after a half an inning.

Yankee Fans Get Kicked Out
While some in the sports media world – like Barstool – are idiotically downplaying the incident with Betts and the Yankee fans, the reality is they could have injured him.
His left wrist could have been injured when the portly fan tried to rip the glove off. His other wrist could have been injured when the other shmuck grabbed his right wrist and tried to hold him in place.
And a fan should never, ever touch a player. For any reason. That’s just fandom 101. As one Mets fan texted me last night – “That’s assault, brother.” (No, it was not Keith Hernandez.)
There’s supporting your team, and then there’s being a complete moron, which these two Yankee fans both are.

Those were decent seats they had. They paid probably around $3,000 for those two tickets.
And they were gone after half an inning. So long, suckas.
Fan Heckles Freddie Freeman During Cancer Tribute
The Bronx attitude definitely came out for those two Yankee fans. But it also emerged a bit later when Major League Baseball did their somber ‘Stand Up To Cancer’ moment during the top of the 6th inning.
Freddie Freeman has been torching Yankee pitching, and one fan apparently had enough. He can be heard yelling, “You suck, Freeman!”
This was while everybody in the stadium was holding up a sign with the name of someone they love who is battling or has battled cancer. And while everybody else basically had their mouths shut at the time.
But not this example of NYC’s finest.

While their fans were acting like trash, the New York Yankees themselves were sparkling on the field. The team managed to stave off elimination by defeating the Dodgers 11-4.
The offense came alive with Anthony Volpe hitting a game-changing grand slam, along with contributions from Austin Wells and Gleyber Torres, who also hit home runs.
