Two New York Yankees fans, Austin Capobianco and John P. Hansen, have been banned indefinitely from all Major League Baseball (MLB) stadiums.

The announcement comes months after a now-infamous incident in Game 4 of the 2024 World Series at Yankee Stadium.

During the game, Capobianco and his friend grabbed each of Mookie Betts’ hands in an attempt to pry his glove off during what should have been a routine foul ball catch along the right field wall.

The incident occurred when Yankees second baseman Gleyber Torres hit a foul pop-up in the first inning. As Capobianco tried to rip Betts’ glove off, Peter latched onto his other wrist to lend an assist. It was one of the most absurd scenes you’ll ever see in an MLB game.

MLB deemed this behavior as posing a “serious risk to the health and safety of the player” and far overstepping the bounds of acceptable fan conduct.

“Your conduct posed a serious risk to the health and safety of the player and went far over the line of acceptable fan behavior,” a letter from the league states, according to the New York Post. “Based on your conduct, Major League Baseball is banning you indefinitely from all MLB stadiums, offices, and other facilities.”

Hope It Was Worth It, Yankee Fans

The Yankee fans were immediately ejected from the game and were also barred from attending Game 5 of the World Series. Remarkably, they were under the impression they’d be able to attend the next game because the franchise hadn’t moved to bar them immediately.

Capobianco and Hansen were in seats belonging to a long-time season ticket holder who was not present. The ticket holder will not lose their seats due to the fans’ actions. And they have reportedly agreed with the other Yankee fans being banned.

Surprisingly, the two became instant celebrities in New York over the incident, with Capobianco running his ample mouth to the press every chance he got. He had little remorse for their actions.

His first move was to brag that the two had planned on doing something like this for years.

“We’re not going to go out of our way to attack. If it’s in our area, we’re going to ‘D’ up,” Capobianco said. “Someone defends, someone knocks the ball. We talk about it. We’re willing to do this.”

“The best was when [my friend] just grabbed the arm. It was […] hilarious in the video,” he would later tell Barstool Sports.

ESPN reporter Jesse Rogers said Capobianco was “hoping it’s a short-term ban” after he was locked out of Game 5. Instead, it’s indefinite, which hopefully translates to a lifetime ban.

Additionally, the ban extends to all MLB offices and events, with a warning that they could face arrest for trespassing if they attempt to attend any MLB-related activities. How exactly the league would accomplish this is unclear.

Mookie Betts Said He Was ready to Fight Them

Betts is still clearly upset with the ignorant New York Yankees fans who interfered with his attempt to catch the foul ball. In fact, he had a message for them just a couple of weeks ago. It involves three words and language that is definitely NSFW.

Betts recalled the incident with Kevin Hart and Kenan Thompson as part of the comedians’ “Back That Year Up 2024” special.

“I was in the moment,” Betts said. “I thought about throwing the ball at them.”

He said if there were one message he could deliver to the dynamic duo, it would be this: “[Expletive] you guys.”

“Like, try and get the ball, cool,” he continued. “But, like, you tried to grab my [expletive].”

After initially remaining quiet on the incident due to the Dodgers eventually losing the game and temporarily postponing their championship parade, Betts would later admit that he wanted to fight the two dweeb Yankee fans.

“That was wild, man. That was really wild. I’ve never experienced anything like that,” he said in an interview with Fox Sports. “I was telling my wife that was like the second time in my life I’ve ever wanted to fight someone.”

Several of Betts’ teammates went so far as to suggest that the fans be charged with assault.
