The country music singer Ingrid Andress shocked the world on Monday night when she had a disastrous performance of the national anthem at the MLB Home Run Derby. Andress has since admitted that she was drunk during the performance, and she has reportedly checked into rehab.
Now, the legendary comedian Roseanne Barr is speaking out to defend Andress. Roseanne is herself famous for an absolutely horrendous rendition of “The Star-Spangled Banner.”
Roseanne Barr Defends Ingrid Andress
Barr, 71, told TMZ that people need to lay off Andress, 32, because when it comes to songs, the national anthem is the “hardest in the world” to perform. She added that she thinks Andress actually did just fine performing it.

Barr’s Infamous National Anthem Rendition
Barr reportedly went on to say that she still thinks her own infamous rendition of the national anthem is the worst of all time.
This was a reference to Barr’s brutal performance of “The Star-Spangled Banner” at a San Diego Padres baseball game back in 1990. She screeched the lyrics as she sang them so poorly that she even put her own fingers in her ears. Barr then shockingly ended the performance by grabbing her crotch and spitting on the pitcherâs mound.

‘It’s Disgraceful’
Millions of Americans were disgusted and appalled by Barr’s rendition of the national anthem. It was so bad that even the then-President George H.W. Bush spoke out about it.
âMy reaction is, itâs disgraceful. A lot of people in San Diego said the same thing,â Bush said at the time.
Barr later opened up about what went wrong with her performance.
âI started too high. I knew about six notes in that I couldnât hit the big note,â she told the Washington Post in 2016. âSo I just tried to get through it, but I couldnât hear anything with 50,000 drunk […] booing, screaming âyou fat [expletive],â giving me the finger and throwing bottles at me during the song they ârespectâ so much.â
Andrews Performs National Anthem ‘Drunk’
After Andress botched the national anthem on Monday, many fans were quick to compare her to Barr.
âMay have moved Roseanne Barr down to number two worst anthem!!â one social media user exclaimed. Another fan added, âRoseanne Barr is trending in case you wanted to know how bad that anthem just was.”
âRoseanne Barr still had the worst Anthem ever but tonight was pretty close,â a third user commented.
Afterwards, Andress admitted that she was “drunk” when she sang the song.
“I was drunk last night,” Andress said in a statement.
“I’m checking myself into a facility today to get the help I need,” she added. “That was not me last night. I apologize to MLB, all the fans, and this country I love so much for that rendition.”
“I’ll let y’all know how rehab is – I hear it’s super fun,” Andress concluded.
The national anthem is a song that deserves the utmost respect because of what it symbolizes to millions of Americans. Though it’s kind of Barr to defend Andress while most are kicking the singer while she’s down, we hope that singers pay more respect to the national anthem in the future.
