Former MLB star Mark Teixeira, a three-time All-Star and World Series champion, has announced his candidacy for Texas’ 21st Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives.
The announcement from the ‘Tex Message,’ as Yankees radio announcer John Sterling might say, comes after incumbent Rep. Chip Roy’s decision not to seek re-election as he campaigns for Texas Attorney General.
Describing himself as a lifelong conservative and proud Texan, Teixeira said he aims to defend President Trump’s agenda and protect Texas families.
“As a proud Texan and lifelong conservative who loves our country, I’m ready to fight for the principles that make Texas strong and America exceptional,” a statement reads. “It takes teamwork to win, and I’m ready to help defend President Trump’s America First agenda, Texas families, and individual liberty.”
He added, “I’m running to ensure District 21 remains prosperous and free for generations to come.”
Big news: I’m ready to go!

Mark Teixeira Entering the Political Fray
It’s going to be quite the transition for Teixeira. You can’t just randomly toss your batting helmet into the political ring and expect success. Being a conservative in red and free Texas, in a district dominated by Trump in each of his three presidential races, should help.
Teixeira actually supported Marco Rubio in his 2016 presidential campaign. But now, he’s ready to defend the President’s America First agenda.
As Sterling might also say, “You’re on the Mark, Teixeira!”
“Since moving back to Texas in 2021, Mark has fought for conservative values—supporting leaders like Governor Greg Abbott, Congressman Chip Roy, and President Donald J. Trump, and partnering with the Texas Public Policy Foundation to advance educational freedom and opportunity for Texas families,” Teixeira’s campaign site states.
Tex is Entering Politics, While Trump Weighs in on Baseball
Mark Teixeira, now 45, enjoyed a 14-season career in the Major Leagues, debuting with the Texas Rangers in 2003 and later playing for the Atlanta Braves, Los Angeles Angels, and New York Yankees, where he contributed to their 2009 World Series victory.
Throughout his career, he earned three Silver Slugger Awards, five Gold Gloves, and hit 409 home runs on his way to three All-Star nominations.
While Mark Teixeira’s world is overlapping into politics, Trump has been making headlines in the world of baseball.
The President helped convince MLB to make Pete Rose eligible for the Hall of Fame and is now on a mission to get Roger Clemens inducted.
