Bubba Wallace and his wife Amanda are expecting their first baby in October. But if you think the NASCAR driver is going to allow first-time father nerves to get him frazzled, think again.

Wallace opened up about the pregnancy in an edition of the “Dale Jr. Download”. And, it seems his newfound positive, calm, reaffirming attitude is translating to everyday life as well.

“I’ve been super calm, cool and collected about it,” he explained. “Amanda, she’s been going through the ups and downs and just the excitement of motherhood for her, feeling the baby kick. She loves it. She thinks it’s the coolest thing ever.”

Bubba Wallace points out that with five weeks left to go until the baby arrives, his wife is starting to get a bit nervous.

“We’re five weeks out, and it’s crazy to think so she’s starting to feel some pain and some pressure in certain areas,” he continued. “Now she’s worried like, ‘Oh my god if I do one wrong move is the baby coming now?’ She’s overthinking everything.”

But Bubba? It takes a lot to get him wound up.

Baby On The Way? No Problem For Bubba Wallace

Bubba Wallace indicates he’s been a touch more measured, tempering his excitement as they get closer to the baby’s due date. He’s keeping the emotions harnessed.

“She (Amanda) asked me a couple weeks ago, she’s like, ‘Are you excited?’ I’m like, ‘Look, there’s a lot going on right now obviously, I will be excited when little man is here.'”

For now, he’s keeping that energy under wraps. He’s excited for sure, but NASCAR fans know, he’s notoriously calm.

“Don’t get me wrong, I’m excited to be a dad, but it takes a lot for me to get excited,” he said. “We’re both enjoying the process.”

Wallace even marveled at his wife’s physical appearance during the pregnancy.

“She’s strictly belly. That’s it,” he explained. “Hasn’t put on any other weight anywhere else.”

Working On His Mental State

It’s good to see Bubba Wallace taking everything in stride on and off the track. This past week, he credited solid performances on the track to stepping away from social media and avoiding “toxic comments” from NASCAR fans.

“It’s been so nice,” Wallace said. “Just being caught up in other people’s lives, and just start comparing, like, ‘Man, I want…’ it’s just, aside from the toxic comments, social media is just a lot at times.”

Wallace currently finds himself in a high-stress environment heading into the Cook Out Southern 500 at Darlington on Saturday.

He sits just outside the playoff mark and needs a few things to fall into place to make it.

“We’re not out of it by any means,” he said.

It takes a lot to get that man excited.
