On Tuesday, NASCAR legend Dale Earnhardt Jr. posted something on social media that had fans going crazy.

Is he coming back to racing after nearly a decade in retirement? What was he teasing, exactly?

What is Dale Jr. Up To?

Yardbarker reported Tuesday on a tweet Earnhardt shared. In the tweet, you see a pair of feet walking towards the camera in full racing gear. You can see the unknown figure reach down to adjust his pants, and then the video teases an upcoming…something… set for this morning.

“The caption for the tweet was ‘Something’s coming. Tomorrow. 9 a.m. ET. Dale Jr. Download,” the report noted.

The story continued:

Fans on Twitter immediately began speculating it could mean a return to the track for Dale Earnhardt Jr., who officially retired from racing following a full slate in the 2017 season. He has since occasionally returned to drive in the NASCAR Xfinity Series.

But some fans believe Earnhardt Jr. could get behind the wheel for a NASCAR Cup Series race, possibly even the NASCAR All-Star Race at North Wilkesboro from May 17-19. The North Wilkesboro race is typically a grassroots celebration for racing, so it would make a lot of sense to include a legend like Earnhardt Jr. in the field.

Another possibility is the weekend before, the Official Throwback Weekend of NASCAR at Darlington Raceway on May 10-12.

“I’m now convinced this is a Bowman National Guard sponsored throwback for Darlington,” one user wrote on Twitter.

Throwback

A throwback is exactly what it was.

On3 reported Wednesday morning, “Hendrick Motorsports has unveiled the throwback paint scheme Chase Elliott will use for the Cup Series race at Darlington Raceway on May 12. Elliott’s No. 9 Chevrolet for Darlington is a callback to one of Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s iconic paint schemes during his time with Hendrick Motorsports, red, white and blue with UniFirst taking the place of National Guard as the primary sponsor.”

“Hendrick Motorsports released a video on X of Elliott first showing off his new hot rod to Earnhardt,” GOATS noted.

So no return to the track for Dale Jr.

But fans can still dream.
