Former USC guard Bronny James surprisingly entered the 2024 NBA Draft after a pretty bad only season with the Trojans.

The backdrop here is Bronny’s status as the oldest son of NBA star LeBron James. For some, his namesake is the only real reason why he’s even being considered as a potential pick in ths NBA Draft this week.

After all, James did nothing of substance as a freshman in Southern California last season. We’re not kidding you. Check out his stats.

  • Bronny James stats (2023-24): 4.8 PPG, 2.8 RPG, 2.1 APG, 37% shooting, 27% 3-point

These numbers typically wouldn’t even be good enough to play professionally in Taiwan with Dwight Howard.

Alas, here we are. James will hear his name called some time in the second round of the NBA Draft on Thursday. Right now, ESPN has him as the 55th-best player in the annual event.

You really can’t make this stuff up. According to Ben Fawkes of ESPN, an unnamed bettor put a $500 bet on James going No.1 overall to the Atlanta Hawks in the draft Wednesday night. At 250-1 odds, said bettor could win $125,000.

About that? This one scribe has a better chance of prying Taylor Swift away from Travis Kelce than James has of going No. 1 overall in the draft. That might be hyperbole. But the fact remains. Why just toss money down the toilet like your Adrien Broner?

I don’t care how rich you are, that’s just pathetic. I am sure that there are people in the streets that would have loved just a share of that $500.00. What about battered women shelters? Dog kennels? Donating to a worthy cause like a food pantry?

Those reacting to this bet had some rather interesting takes, too.
