Indiana Fever star guard Caitlin Clark is in what seems to be a tight race for the WNBA Rookie of the Year award with rival Angel Reese.
Clark is in the midst of an historic debut season after she shattered NCAA records during a brilliant career with the Iowa Hawkeyes.
Her on-court accomplishments have been muted some by continued drama surrounding the rookie No. 1 pick. It really has nothing to do with her actions or play. Rather, debate continues to rage about her impact on the growing women’s basketball brand. It really is some immature stuff from those on both sides of the debate.
What we can all agree on is the fact that Clark’s numbers are simply eye-opening.
- Caitlin Clark stats (2024): 17.1 PPG, 5.8 RPG, 8.2 APG
Clark has already broken several WNBA and rookie records this season. The same thing can be said about her counterpart, the aforementioned Reese.

Sue Bird Has Caitlin Clark As WNBA Rookie of the Year

Bird just recently noted that she believes Clark should come away with the hardware this season. She wasn’t subtle about it, either.
When Bird talks basketball, we probably should listen.
She played 21 seasons in the WNBA, all with the Seattle Storm. Prior to retiring after the 2022 campaign, her resume was pretty much second-to-none within the league.
We’re talking about a 13-time All-Star and four-time scoring champion. She also ranks eighth all-time in the WNBA in scoring.
There are several prominent figures that have come out to support Clark as the Rookie of the Year. The numbers back this up in a big way.
With that said, the guard still has 26 games remaining in her rookie season. We’ll acquire a better understanding of where the race stands after the Olympic break comes to a conclusion.
