Actor and avid basketball fan Charlie Sheen has reignited the age-old debate over the NBA‘s greatest player of all time, insisting there’s simply no room for discussion.
In a recent interview, Sheen passionately touted one legend’s unmatched dominance, charisma, and transformative influence on the game.
One might say this player is blessed with “tiger blood” and “Adonis DNA.”
Not to mention, the person he has in mind was always “winning.”
With that knowledge, there is little doubt about his pick.
Charlie Sheen says Michael Jordan is the GOAT – and it’s not even close
The 60-year-old Hollywood legend has been on a bit of a redemption tour of late, starring in a two-part Netflix documentary series, aka Charlie Sheen, which chronicles his rise to fame, public struggles, and path to recovery.
He also released a new book, “The Book of Sheen,” earlier this year.
With his media tour ongoing, Sheen appeared on “All The Smoke” with Matt Barnes and Stephen Jackson, making it clear who he thinks is the basketball GOAT between Michael Jordan and LeBron James.
“I mean, why is there even a debate, right?” Sheen said, making it clear it’s Jordan. “I mean, it just feels kind of obvious, right? I’m sure LeBron won’t appreciate that.”

That time he beat MJ
Charlie Sheen also told the podcast hosts about a little-known time when he actually beat Michael Jordan on the basketball court. Legit. Well, almost legit. Jordan was handcuffed in just about every way possible.
In 1986, on the TV special “War of the Stars,” a 21-year-old Sheen teamed up with his father, Martin Sheen, to compete against Jordan in a three-part basketball challenge.
The challenge featured a free-throw contest in which Jordan was blindfolded, a game of “Horse,” and a two-on-one matchup.
Jordan dominated “Horse” and the Sheens edged him out in the free throws—thanks to Charlie’s sharp 8-for-10 performance. The tie-breaker was the two-on-one matchup. And the younger Sheen hit the game-winner.

“This opportunity just fell out of the sky. There was this show, a short-lived show, pitting actors against athletes in their respective sports. And the card we drew was Jordan, and in a two-on-one,” Sheen explained. “It was me and my dad. So, we were just like, sure, why not? Sure, we can get embarrassed on national television.”
And they somehow won.
Sheen revealed that he ended up becoming lifelong friends with Air Jordan.
“There was a time when I would text him, and this dude would literally respond in like 15 or 20 seconds,” he said.
As for LeBron, Charlie Sheen is correct. Why limit the choices to just MJ and the self-proclaimed “King James” when it’s not even close between those two? There are so many more who could give Jordan some competition.
Jordan played in an era when the NBA actually had this thing called defense. As did Kobe Bryant. In fact, numerous players played at a higher level against tougher D.
LeBron is an all-time great player, to be sure. His versatility, all-around skills, and longevity, as evidenced by his continued high-level play in 2024, are remarkable.
In this author’s view, however, he’d have a tough time cracking the top 10. Jordan, Bryant, Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Wilt Chamberlain, Shaquille O’Neal himself, Bill Russell, Oscar Robertson, Julius Erving.
You’re going to put LeBron ahead of them? Nah, bro. Especially when he’s the most Charmin-soft person on that list.
As Charlie says, it’s not even a debate.
