Cleveland Browns quarterback Shedeur Sanders put up relatively unimpressive numbers against an incredibly unimpressive opponent and was carried by his team’s defense.

But that didn’t stop the overreaction factory over at ESPN. Particularly, analyst Kendrick Perkins, who suddenly believes Sanders is “the most powerful player in sports.”

Narrator: He’s not.

Sanders completed 11 of 20 passes for 209 yards, with one touchdown and one interception, while leading his team to a 24-10 road victory over the Las Vegas Raiders. If it were anybody else’s name on the back of the jersey, nobody would have given a second glance.

Sanders, as per usual, is in love with himself after that performance.

“I think I showed a couple of great pieces, and there’s some things I wish I could get back,” Sanders said. “But man, a win is crazy. It’s amazing. You know? Off of one week of practice. This is one week of practice! So imagine what a full offseason look like! It get dangerous!”

Perkins thinks Shedeur Sanders is the greatest

Also, because it’s Shedeur, ESPN’s Perkins thinks Sanders has accomplished something earth-shattering. Which, again, he hasn’t.

“Shedeur Sanders is the most powerful Black man since 2009,” Perkins said. “You know what happened in 2009? That’s when President Obama got elected in office. He’s the most powerful Black man since 2009.”

In case you were under the impression that Perkins would come to his senses, you can think again. He continued heaping over-the-top praise on Shedeur Sanders.

“You got the Black community. He’s bringing the whole Black community together. I ain’t ran across one Black person that done said one bad thing about Shedeur,” Perkins claimed. “That’s because he has the balance. He has the balance of that I’m arrogant, but I’m humble too.”

“He’s having fun with this. He’s the most powerful Black man in sports. As a matter of fact, he’s the most powerful player in sports.”

Jason Whitlock responds

It’s honestly hard to believe that one man was able to string together so many of the absolute dumbest sentences in a row as Perkins just pulled off. What a legend. Making his ol’ high school proud.

Veteran sports analyst Jason Whitlock disagrees that Perkins is a bright bulb. And he tore into him for the inane comments.

Whitlock mocked Perkins and Shedeur by posting an image of Sanders in the likeness of those old Obama ‘Hope and Change’ posters.

Except, he had it captioned, “Dope and Deranged.”

Perkins has a history of saying dumb things. It’s his shtick.

He raised eyebrows when suggesting Denver Nuggets star Nikola Jokic, a three-time NBA Most Valuable Player, wasn’t deserving of his third accolade.

Perkins claimed that Jokic was only winning MVPs because he’s white.
