Team USA’s women’s basketball team did some work against Japan to open the Summer Olympics Monday in France.

But that’s not the entire story.

Despite winning by the score of 102-76, Team USA found itself on the receiving end of a troll job from fans in Paris.

It has to do with star rookie and record-breaking guard Caitlin Clark being left off the team. Fans in Paris apparently didn’t realize that the women’s basketball team was 72-3 in Olympic competition and has won seven consecutive golds when trolling them big time.

About that? It did not end well for the trolls. A’ja Wilson dropped 24 points with 13 rebounds an four assists. The likely WNBA MVP also had four blocks. Breanna Stewart added 22 points of her own as Team USA won going away.

Trolling Team USA Over Caitlin Clark Is Not It

Should Clark have made the roster? It’s certainly up for debate. But Team USA is going to win gold in Paris. That much is by now well known.

As for the drama relating to Clark being left off the team. South Carolina head coach and a member of the USWNT selection committee Dawn Staley provided an interesting take over the weekend.

“If we had to do it all over again, the way that she’s playing, she would be in really high consideration of making the team because she is playing head and shoulders above a lot of people,” Dawn Staley on Caitlin Clark.

As you can see, Clark is in the midst of an historic rookie season for the Indiana Fever. She closed up shop on the first half of the season in grand fashion. Hence, what Staley was talking about in making her point about Clark not being on Team USA.

Regardless, the women’s basketball team is dominating. Clark being left out does absolutely nothing to change this fact.
