Pace yourself, children of the 1980s and 1990s. You might want to sit down for this one. It could be too much for our now-old selves to handle.

As you likely already know, NBC has gained media rights for NBA basketball starting in 2025. It’s part of a new 11-year media rights deal with NBC, ESPN and Amazon Prime.

The announcement came on Wednesday after the Association opted for Amazon’s offer over a matching offer from Turner Sports.

In making their announcement on social media, NBC electrified generations of basketball fans with its legendary NBA on NBC theme song. Blast from the past and stuff like that.

This is almost like going back in time when CD players were the craze and playing Mario Brothers was the hip thing to do. It’s almost like listening to the theme song of “Saved by the Bell” while swooning over Kelly Kapowski.

Yes, that type of stuff.

Theme Song Brings Back Legendary NBA on NBA Moments

Who can forget Bob Costas having to break away from coverage of the 1994 NBA Finals to cover the O.J. Simpson highway chase? This theme song is still etched in our memories.

Michael Jordan leading the Chicago Bulls to six NBA titles. Titanic matchups between the Indiana Pacers and the New York Knicks in the NBA Playoffs. Reggie Miller getting into it with Knicks super-fan Spike Lee.

All of this came with the NBA on NBC theme song playing a major role.

Think about it.

Absolutely iconic.

“Our new global media agreements with Disney, NBCUniversal and Amazon will maximize the reach and accessibility of NBA games for fans in the United States and around the world,” NBA Commissioner Adam Silvere said in a statement on Wednesday. “These partners will distribute our content across a wide range of platforms and help transform the fan experience over the next decade.”

We’re glad the NBA is getting its money and the league’s popularity continues to grow. That’s a good thing. But it’s all about the NBA on NBC theme song returning in 2025.

Those on social media agreed.

Who here wants 2025 to be like the mid 1990s? Such simpler times. Listening to this theme song before future Hall of Famers took to the court in what was a much more brutal display of basketball.

Thanks, NBC. We’ll be tuning in.
