Dwyane Wade took aim at critics of his statue outside Kaseya Center in Miami. The statue is hilariously inaccurate and quite ugly. And I’m being nice.
Social media erupted after the statue was first unveiled. Joy turned to horror when the walls dropped, and the smoke cleared, revealing Wade’s face.
Or at least, it looked like Wade’s face would if he had been removed from a crypt after 1,000 years. Or if Hannibal Lecter wore Dwyane’s face as a mask.
Wade appeared on The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon when the host asked him the million-dollar question.
“It’s got a little, you know – some people started talking a little bit,” Fallon said, showing a picture of the statue.
Dwyane Wade Fires Back At Statue Critics
If we’re being frank, Dwyane Wade had a pretty fun interaction with Fallon over the statue.
At first, the crowd laughed before Fallon even whipped out the picture. This was probably because they knew what it looked like since that image is seared into their minds for eternity.
“What’s the chuckles for?” Wade asked, smiling.
Fallon, after mentioning how people have been talking (That’s us, we’ve been talking), prompted Wade to reply, “That’s what people do.”
“But people ain’t got a statue, Jimmy,” Wade added. “I only listen to people who have statues.”

Dwyane Wade handled the statue controversy pretty well on Fallon’s show. He was slightly amped up a few months ago when he defended it and the artist behind it.
“Social media world is about opinions. Send some memes. We don’t care. It was a special moment yesterday, my family and I.” said Wade.
Wade added that it “don’t need to look like me” because it’s an “artistic” rendition. Nah, bro. It needs to look somewhat like you.
Dwyane Wade asked if he saw any reaction to statue:

“Yeah, I have an i-phone.”
He added:

That thing will be out there for years and years to come. Instead of people admiring it, children will have their dreams haunted when they return home from the game. I contend it might violate the Geneva Conventions as a war crime.
Also, never forget these…
Count Charles Barkley as a fan of the statue honoring the Miami Heat legend. Just kidding.
“It’s a great honor, but they gotta take that thing down,” he said. “If you made an ugly statue, that’s what it would look like. That thing is awful.”
Wade is a three-time NBA champion, a Finals MVP, and a thirteen-time All-Star. They did him wrong in Miami.
