Dwyane Wade took aim at critics of his recently revealed statue in Miami. The statue, hilariously inaccurate and quite ugly, is actually an artistic representation of himself and not meant to be an accurate depiction, according to Wade.
Social media erupted after the statue was unveiled in Miami on Sunday. Joy turned to horror when the walls dropped and the smoke cleared, revealing Wade’s face.
Or at least, it looked like Wade’s face would if he had been removed from a crypt after 1,000 years. Or if he had been dried out in a kiln. Or if he was wearing a mask of his own face.
Either way, it is the stuff of nightmares.

Dwyane Wade Statue Sparks Hilarious Memes
Leave it to social media to deliver some hilarious responses to the Dwyane Wade statue. Most of them involved photoshopping the statue’s face onto actual images of the NBA Hall of Famer.
They were glorious.
“The Miami Heat should’ve had a contest where they showed this picture to 1,000 fans — and anyone who guesses it’s Dwyane Wade gets to keep the statue,” ESPN’s NFL reporter Jeff Darlington wrote, adding an image of the statue’s face.
The rest of X had an absolute field day.

Wade Defends Artist
For what it’s worth, Dwyane Wade defended the artist who created the statue of his face looking like somebody about to turn to dust after Thanos snaps his finger.
“Social media world is about opinions. Send some memes. We don’t care. It was a special moment yesterday, my family and I.” said Wade.
“It don’t need to look like me. It’s an artistic version of me.”
Dwyane Wade asked if he saw any reaction to statue:

“Yeah, I have an i-phone.”
He added:

I mean, it should kinda look like you. Shouldn’t it? And not a version of you if you had been freeze-dried for a century?
The artist also responded to the criticism saying, “I don’t think anybody else can do better than that.”
A small child with a rudimentary Play-Doh set can do better than that.
“It is what it is, and we will love it forever,” artist Omri Amrany added.
At least someone does!
