Fans clapped back at Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James after he posted a social media comment complaining about having to travel to Milwaukee during the pre-season.
The Lake Show is set to take on the Milwaukee Bucks in Wisconsin later today… on the lake (Michigan). James though, isn’t exactly thrilled about the matchup.
“Can someone please explain to me why we’re getting on a ✈️ and heading to Milwaukee for 1 pre-season game!?!?” he asked.
While critics swiftly pounced on the comment, pointing out that it’s LeBron’s job to go to these games and he gets paid rather handsomely to do so, one NBA insider pointed out that his own team likely scheduled the game.
So, uh, maybe take it up with your own front office, eh?
LeBron James Doesn’t Want To Travel For Pre-Season Games
Various social media users responded to Lebron James’ complaint that he had to travel to Milwaukee for a pre-season game. Most of those responses fell into two categories: Snarky explanations answering his question, and reminders that he gets paid to play basketball.
Here are a couple of examples of the first category.
“Hey LeBron, it’s Greg,” Greg wrote. “The reason for this is because if you were to drive there it would take over 29 hours so I’m guessing your coaches thought it would be more efficient to fly. Hope this helps.”
Added another: “I believe that’s where the Bucks play if I’m not mistaken.”
As for the latter category, one fan answered, “Because you’re getting paid millions of dollars?”
“You’re getting paid 60 million a year and you are complaining?” a fan replied.
Ask The Team About The Travel Plans
LeBron James this past summer agreed to a two-year, $104 million maximum contract to return to the Los Angeles Lakers. He conned the team into drafting his son and then handing him a four-year, $7.9 million contract.
So he’s got some sway with the front office. Maybe he should speak with them.
Bobby Marks, an NBA Front Office Insider for ESPN, leaned on his experience in the front office of the Brooklyn Nets to explain that the team itself schedules pre-season games years in advance.
“As someone who handled this in NJ/Brooklyn, the pre-season schedule is done in-house and not thru the NBA,” he stated.
Moreover, his research suggests that the trip to Milwaukee was part of a deal in which the Bucks actually had to make the long pre-season trip last year.
“It looks like the Milwaukee game was part of a home-home arrangement between both teams,” Marks said. “The Bucks played at Los Angeles last October.”
